Position Title: Engineering Manager -Electrical

Job purpose:
Supervision and technical direction to hourly, salaried, and management personnel engaged in design, development or research activities related to a single technology, component, product, or sub-process which accomplish product maintenance and new product introduction objectives. JOB RELATED
Job duties:
Reporting to this position are various levels of engineers, technologists, and support
personnel in one geographic location. The supervision role accounts for up to 50% of this assignment. The remainder of the time, the incumbent acts as an individual contributor, bringing technical expertise to the project as well. Program/project management skills and organizational skills are critical.
Position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills. Ability to draw upon the role-based competencies of Managing Vision & Purpose, Motivating Others, Developing Others, and Listening. Ever increasing skills in the Caterpillar Leadership competencies.
The incumbent would set strategy at the section level. The section would solve problems for a single technology, component, product, or sub-process.
Project scope will vary from a moderate technical focus on a component, product, or subproduct, and will require incumbent to broaden business understanding.
Therefore, the ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, failure resolution & prevention, and requirements management is required; as well as, ever increasing skill in technical project management, development of product, internal and external requirements management, and cost-value management. The ability to draw upon knowledge of more than one engineering function, technology, component, system, product, or process is required. A section supervisor must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience new business knowledge and skill, understanding the customers' needs and application of the product or process, as well as keeping up with technology.
To make decisions, this position will work with immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and the market, typically impacting a single product,
process, or factory.
Decisions may affect warrantees, sales, customer perception, and the product through technology and core competency. Primary accountability for operating expense budget.
