The Pearson Digital Workplace Services [DWS] team is simplifying how Pearson employees work, engage and collaborate using a broad range of technology, initiatives and transformation activities introducing new, globally consistent platforms, services and security and identity approaches primarily based on Microsoft products.

About you:

We are searching for a passionate delivery focused security engineer that can understand, articulate and drive value from our technology. You are already a seasoned veteran in implementing the Modern Workplace security ecosystem across different sized enterprises and sectors, an experienced individual with a broad lens on Workplace technology.

You will be part of a team designing, implementing, managing and improving the secure modern implementation of the products used by Pearson's staff daily.

You have a forward-thinking, customer focussed approach to devising new solutions and enhancements with a focus on meeting business and security demands with a keen focus on delivering tangible results to Pearson's security posture.

Role purpose:

The Microsoft Security Engineer will work in the Digital Workplace Services team providing specialist security engineering support to the team to ensure continuous security improvements are implemented across Pearson's global businesses. The role is responsible for the engineering, automation, product lifecycle and development of all in scope Microsoft and related platform security services working alongside our architecture, engineering and operations staff.

To realize these goals and objectives the position must balance core Microsoft technology security skills & product knowledge with a delivery focused pragmatism whilst maintaining a great workplace experience. The role also encompasses wider awareness of the Microsoft Modern Workplace tools and platforms working as cross region in a strong multi-disciplined engineering group embracing agile ways of working.

Key responsibilities

As a report to the Platform Security Architect within the Digital Workplace Services group, the candidate will be responsible for:

Contribute to designs for Microsoft security technology roadmaps, that support our enterprise technology roadmaps and key business objectives interlinked into wider CISO initiatives

Create and implement low level technical designs for security solutions.

Assist in deployment for DWS' desktop and cloud security product portfolio and associated ancillary services, strategies and technologies.

Ensure BAU security activities are understood and actioned as per Pearson standards, suggesting updates and improvements.

Ensuring that required metrics are understood, implemented and available. These metrics make certain the platform remains operational, optimized and available to business end users

Support the design team support for future M&A activities.

Deliverables and outcomes

Support the delivery of various security programmes and ensure timely transition of projects into BAU support programme to deliver security objectives.

Deliver subsequent product Low-Level Designs and governance processes to support the blueprint ready for engineering delivery

Workplace experience will be a priority with constant focus and awareness of user experience and requirements.

Continual service improvement to minimize the number of self-imposed outages - drive high quality change and release management through automation practices.

Experience and culture:

Engineering experience in one or more of the following technologies:

Azure AIP

Azure AD & Conditional Access

Microsoft Defender (suite)

Azure Security Centre and Compliance Centre

Office 365 Data Loss Prevention and Data Retention

General end point protection / Windows laptop security stack

Modern Workplace technology background

Worked within an Enterprise global estates of 5,000 seats and above

Experienced in working with large geographically dispersed teams

Excellent written and verbal communication

An open collaborator that shares and coaches their colleagues and works proactively inside their immediate and peer teams

Strong communication and influencing skills.

Skills and qualifications:

ITIL operational awareness and understanding

Relevant Microsoft skills and certifications in Microsoft security and Azure such as:

AZ-500

AZ-900

Functional level of PowerShell scripting

Understanding of Scrum and Agile approaches
