The Team:

We are a Platform Engineering group within Ciena\xe2\x80\x99s Information Security Organization developing and supporting a wide range of systems and tools that facilitate internal software developers in their mandate to build secure systems, and that provide to management visibility into the security posture of our code bases and running systems. Our foundational technologies are open source, and we embrace design and engineering practices that encourage loose coupling among systems and thus provide for composable systems components. Our backend systems are built in Python and soon Go and deployed via containers. We deploy into AWS/ECS and soon Kubernetes. We anticipate using Kafka to support event driven systems and data transformations during ETL/ELT. We use Snowflake as a data lake and our preferred RDBMS is PostgreSQL hosted on AWS/RDS. Our goal is to obviate human hands in production, and we thus embrace IaC across development, test and production. We use Terraform for IaC and Ansible for configuration management. Sitting atop the backend systems layer is the application layer. The team\xe2\x80\x99s first focus is on Application Security, or AppSec, for which we programmatically and operationally support multiple security scanners and platforms. SAST, SCA, DAST, IAST, RASP - these and more are categories which we either actively support and maintain or are evaluating for future deployment and integration.

How You Will Contribute:

This role might go by any number of other titles: Senior DevOps Engineer, Senior Platform Engineer, Senior SRE. We chose Senior Infrastructure Developer to emphasize aptitudes associated with coding and to underscore the ability to build infrastructure from code. We need someone who knows Terraform or Pulumi well enough to build abstractions and modules for other developers. At the same time, we need someone who can handle old-style sysadmin tasks such as upgrading application servers and their associated backend databases. For configuration management we will likely embrace Ansible where possible, but the individual in this role will have the largest influence on our infrastructure stack choices. We need a true senior developer in this role: someone who can carry the infrastructure and make strong decisions through a solid understanding of abstractions and software design patterns. Realizing that your skills and experience may not fully overlap with this role, if you can embrace our goals, operate energetically in our stack even as it evolves, and help us address our needs, you may be a fit for the team.

The Must Haves:

• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or comparable education and experience.
• 5+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience developing software with Python and/or Go in a Linux environment.
• Experience developing backend systems and using SQL to interact with RDBMS.

Assets:

• Experience with any or all of the technologies listed in bold above including Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Terraform, Pulumi, Ansible, Vault, OAuth, LDAP
• Experience building APIs using ReST and/or GraphQL.
• Familiarity with and preference for Infrastructure as Code over manual configuration and throw- away scripts.
