Program Overview for Energy

The objective of the WRI India energy program is to inform and guide India\'s transition to cleaner energy through strong research, ground-level implementation experience, partnerships with key stakeholders and communicating our work. The 5 pillars of the energy program focus on increasing clean energy demand, increasing clean energy supply, supporting sub-national energy transitions, raising the issues of materials and circularity for the energy transition and ensuring equitable development through energy transitions.

Position Overview:

You will help develop strategy and implementing activities designed for specific audiences in the finance sector. You will work with colleagues in the Energy Program to facilitate the flow of finance for clean energy projects for different consumer categories; research new business models and products; and engage policy makers to inform changes in policy needed to facilitate clean energy financing.

How your day will unfold:

Main responsibilities will include the following:

Research & Knowledge creation (60% of time required)

  • Conducting research with a focus on both international and domestic sources of finance
  • Design financing mechanisms for access to clean energy solutions for different consumer categories during course of the energy transition.
  • Leading, and publishing new research on clean energy finance in India and other developing countries.
Program Development and Convening (40% of time required)
  • Coordinating with the Program\'s overall strategy and with the energy strategies developed by other offices in the WRI network.
  • Support in organizing and facilitating high-level external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other project dissemination activities with partners on energy finance - including government, regulators, discoms, development finance institutions, foundations, bilateral donors, corporates, and energy entrepreneurs.
  • Engaging with other WRI programs, including the Finance Center, to provide support on the clean energy dimensions of their work on shifting global financial flows.
Qualifications and Requirements we seek:
  • Expertise in the energy sector energy finance.
  • Familiarity with international financial institutions (including development finance institutions), mechanisms and governance.
  • Graduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as finance, energy policy, public policy, economics, environmental law or policy.
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience authoring and leading research publications and the ability to identify relevant research questions and establish the qualitative or quantitative evidence needed to answer the questions.
  • With experience writing for specific audiences, e.g. policymakers, business leaders.
The ability to work in multicultural settings and with diverse teams of individuals and colleagues. * Project management experience.
  • Flexibility to travel 30% or more of the time.
  • Private sector experience in clean energy; (capital markets/project finance/private equity/venture capital)
  • Strong quantitative skills - economics and/or statistics
  • Professional proficiency in multiple languages
  • Experience working in developing countries
Salary and Benefits: INR 15,00,000 to INR 18,00,000 CTC

Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills. WRI offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package.

Duration: 1 year (extendable based on performance and project requirements)

Location: New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore India

Start Date: At the earliest.
