Job Introduction The BBC World Service is an international brand – known for its impartial news content in English and many other languages. Read on if you’re keen to know more about BBC News Sinhala… The team produces digital news text and video for publication on the bbcsinhala.com website and our social media platforms. You’ll need solid experience in journalism, an appreciation of impartiality, great communication skills and a first-class understanding of the digital world. Working from our Delhi bureau, the Sinhala team is closely connected with colleagues based across the globe, predominantly working with staff in Sri Lanka, India and the UK. This role is open to non-Indian citizens. Main Responsibilities Reporting to the News Editor for BBC Sinhala, Journalists ideate and produce news content in text and video formats for our site and social pages. You’ll need to know about Sri Lankan, regional and international news and current affairs. You’ll be joining a team that makes impact through original journalism and creative storytelling. Are you the right candidate? The successful candidates will be able to show well developed journalistic skills and editorial decision-making. Fluency in Sinhala (written and spoken) is essential. You’ll need to be able to communicate well in English as it’s the main language in the office and daily life outside of work in Delhi. An understanding of audience behaviour and how to maximise our impact and growth by looking at the data is important.
