Job Purpose

We are looking for a Video Journalist to join our Business team based in Mumbai. In this role, you will organize, gather, process and deliver multimedia content across all BBC digital and linear platforms, responding to breaking news as required. You will possess knowledge of business and economics in India, including emerging trends. The Video Journalist works closely with correspondents, on base and on location, offering production assistance, including some filming and video editing. You will be expected to pioneer new digital storytelling techniques, as well as new ways of gathering and processing material from the field. This role involves regular travel around the country and region.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Originate, research & cover engaging stories using a range of production skills - including filming and editing material.
• Collaborate effectively with correspondents on stories and contribute to the editorial planning and production process.
• Gather and produce content for digital and linear platforms, and in different formats, including text, video and radio content.
• Support correspondents and crews by producing stories, including conducting research, setting up stories, conducting interviews and preparing material for use across BBC News outlets.
• Work individually and collaboratively to ensure content is of the highest editorial and production standards
• Manage time and handle multiple tasks efficiently, adjusting work priorities as developments dictate.
• Uphold BBC News\' journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality and fair dealing.
• Make the best use of new technologies in delivering our journalism to audiences
• At all times to carry out duties in accordance with the BBC Health and Safety policies, and where necessary to execute documentation required for risk assessment procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

• Experience of broadcast or digital journalism, with an emphasis on news.
• Extensive experience filming and editing your own material (on FCPX) to a high standard and under pressure to tight news deadlines.
• News judgement and a knowledge of business and economic affairs in India are both essential.
• Demonstrated experience in covering breaking news stories
• Possesses a wide range of contacts and the ability to use them to find stories before they appear on other outlets.
• A good understanding of the needs of TV, radio and online/mobile journalism are required.
• Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output
• Strong knowledge of digital media and the emerging trends in video production - and how to use them in a news environment.
• Ability to deploy social media as a tool in modern Newsgathering and how best to use it for highest impact.
• The ability to gather contacts, source interviews and secure filming/recording locations
• Knowledge of \'After Effects\' and motion graphics is an advantage
• A proven ability to develop original stories, a commitment to telling stories from across India.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines.
• A creative approach to engaging the audience and story-telling across all platforms.
• Ability to work as part of a small team as well as individually
• Fluency in spoken and written English and Hindi is compulsory. Another Indian language is an advantage.
• Willingness to work flexibly and travel at short notice.
