Team Summary

The India and South Asia (INSA) Government Engagement (GE) team manages policy and regulatory matters to help Visa advance its business priorities in India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. Throughout this diverse and dynamic sub-region, GE aims to create broad alignment between Visa\xe2\x80\x99s business objectives and public policies that affect the payments industry. In addition, the INSA GE team frequently coordinates with internal colleagues and external stakeholders on key government agendas \xe2\x80\x93 such as digital public infrastructure, central bank digital currency, trade, tax, economic development, and sustainability. What a VP, Head of Government Engagement for India and South Asia does at Visa:
Based in Mumbai or New Delhi, the Vice President (VP)/INSA Head of Government Engagement will take a strategic approach to planning and assessing regulatory conditions and business needs of all markets and aligning on priorities with key internal and external stakeholders. The VP will dual report to the Group Country Manager (GCM) for INSA and the Head of GE for AP, and be a full-time member of both the INSA market and APGE functional leadership teams. India and South Asia

  • Build and deepen trust-based relationships at senior levels across governments, regulators, and other key stakeholder groups.
  • Serve on INSA and GE Leadership Teams, providing strategic advice and direct support on matters of legislative and regulatory interest, as well as informing senior management of emerging issues and new developments.
  • Develop in close coordination with geographic and functional leadership teams a policy and regulatory management strategy aligned with business priorities for all markets and at the INSA/AP regional levels.
  • Manage relevant budget to support that strategy.
  • Work across INSA and regionally to:
    • Ensure a shared awareness of and understanding of the implications of payments regulation
    • Proactively identify strategic business issues and opportunities for Visa and its clients
    • Advise Visa leaders of any potential regulatory considerations associated with our products and services, especially with respect to emerging technologies and new business focus areas
  • Specific to India, develop and lead the GE strategy to deepen Visa\xe2\x80\x99s leadership in the market and ensure Visa\xe2\x80\x99s long-term license to operate. Identify areas where Visa\xe2\x80\x99s capabilities align with public policy objectives, and design programs to cement Visa\xe2\x80\x99s reputation as a trusted partner to the government.
  • Coordinate ongoing regional senior management contact with key lawmakers and regulators.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Communications and Social Impact functions to implement a cohesive and compelling Corporate Affairs narrative for Visa in INSA; develop strategic plans and deliver high-quality Visa executive engagements to embed the narrative with key opinion leaders and enhance Visa\xe2\x80\x99s brand health and reputation in each market
  • Lead a high-performing INSA GE team to accomplish strategic goals. Coach and develop talent to the best of their potential.
  • Exemplify Visa\xe2\x80\x99s Leadership Principles in collaborating, partnering and leading others.
  • Liaise regularly with GE functional colleagues around the world to develop and refine best practices, share intelligence and coordinate efforts
  • Be acutely aware of potential global implications of local and regional issues and coordinate their management with colleagues globally
  • Across INSA markets, ensure strict adherence to the highest professional ethics at all times. Uphold all responsibilities related to Visa\xe2\x80\x99s global Political Participation, Lobbying, and Contributions (PPLC) policy. Work with cross-divisional partners to assure compliance and processes are in place and followed by all internal stakeholders.
International Advocacy and Regional Policy Coordination
  • Together with the Head of GE for Asia Pacific and the GE Policy team, support advocacy efforts to ensure INSA\xe2\x80\x99s perspectives are taken into account when developing Visa\xe2\x80\x99s position in international forums, including but not limited to policy focus areas such as cross-border, remittance, digital currency, and others.
  • Assist the Head of GE for AP in coordinating U.S.-India bilateral and multilateral engagements such as the Trade Policy Forum and Financial Regulatory Dialogue, together with Visa colleagues in Washington, San Francisco, and across the AP region.

Qualifications

What you will need:

We are looking for an individual who brings strong leadership skills, exceptional maturity and attention to detail, ability to scale up knowledge in new areas and capabilities as they emerge, strength in connecting the dots and people in a business challenge or opportunity, along with the ability to effectively manage several urgent business priorities and significant regulatory developments simultaneously. Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 15 years in a relevant corporate position; regulatory or government agency; and/or consultancy providing related services to multinational corporate clients.
  • First degree minimum; advanced degree preferred.
  • Active network of senior government contacts in INSA and across the AP region.
  • Combination of political and business acumen; understanding of both corporate and political motivations.
  • Knowledge of the payments / banking / financial services sector or Technology / FINTECH sector.
  • Track record of leading and developing people with proven ability to attract, hire and train top talent.
  • Experience in leading a team dispersed across the region.
  • Strategic advocacy skills with ability to balance big picture strategy and detailed, flawless execution, demonstrating a record of implementing strategic initiatives, policies and operational decisions.
  • Superior inter-personal, presentation and written communication skills.
  • Confident and authoritative presence in all communication channels.
  • Ability to act independently but also within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated management experience in policy arena with substantial responsibilities and a record of success in successful government engagement.
  • Ability to grasp complex issues; proven manager of public policy process in a complex environment.
  • Effective at creating consensus utilizing a collaborative, inclusive, and engaging decision-making process.
