JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Technical Lead - Firmware Location: EIC-Pune Position Summary: As a Firmware Technical lead working in the new product development group, you will be responsible for a broad range of engineering tasks and technical leadership. Our mission is to deliver to the market highly reliable products for which Emerson is well known and our customers demand. In support of that mission, you will be responsible for rapid familiarization with our embedded products, Product design and technological needs. This role requires a well-rounded skillset with the ability to understand marketing requirements, work with cross-functional teams & develop technical solution that meets the requirements as per Emerson\'s quality standards. A highly technical expertise with hands-on experience in design and development and technical leadership is critical for this role. You will require to lead of firmware development team working on new product development and ensure guide/mentor team in design/implementation of solution to deliver a solution as per requirement. This role will require end-to-end product development experience ranging from marketing requirements to technological assessment to designing a product that complies to regulatory standards needed for the product. A strong exposure to product development life cycle processes, tools & methodologies (Agile) is crucial to ensure process driven product development. Essential Job Functions: Duties Tasks Technical Leadership Technically lead and manage firmware team throughout the project and ensure high quality deliverables in line with agreed upon schedule. Architecture and Design Work with cross-functional stakeholders in concept feasibility/develop product architecture. Design product firmware that meets the product requirements and lead/guide team in implementing the design. Requirement Development Work with product management function in translating the marketing requirement to technical specification that would enable product development in line with market expectations. Technical Management Detailed technical planning of the core engineering work that involves break down of work, risk assessment, technical solution development and risk mitigation. Design and Implementation Design, implement, and enhance firmware for electric actuators, ensuring seamless integration with the hardware Performance Optimization Identify, analyze, and optimize firmware performance. Responsible for ensuring efficient firmware meets all the necessary performance specifications. Collaboration Work with cross-functional team including hardware, firmware, product management, manufacturing to derive firmware requirement and deliver firmware in-line with needs. Collaborate with other engineers, including hardware, software, and test engineers, to ensure that the firmware is compatible and integrates smoothly with all other components of the electric actuator. Process Driven Development Ensure process driven development that meets stakeholder expectations / team communication / efficient project execution. Product development in line with phase gate process and utilizing Agile methodologies as needed to deliver periodic results throughout the project. Compliance and Safety Ensure that all firmware complies with relevant regulations and standards, such as those set by the FCC, CE, or other regulatory agencies Identify safety issues, particularly if the electric actuator will be used in a safety-critical system Continuous Improvement Current with the latest trends, technologies, and methodologies in firmware development and the broader field of electronics. Willingness to learn/explore new technology and develop solution to meet product needs. Education / Experience Required: Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics or Equivalent Engineering. 12 + Embedded product firmware development experience with ability to understand hardware and work with hardware engineering team. Should have 3+ years of experience in leading the firmware development team Strong core embedded skills to analyze requirements, develop solutions and troubleshoot technical challenges. Proven experience in designing the product based on initial requirements that demonstrate end-to-end product development & leading design team from concept to release. Experience working in RTOS environment is must with thorough understanding of RTOS concepts and direct experience of developing firmware based on RTOS. Experience working in a global engineering environment. Working experience on Bluetooth & other industrial protocols like Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, HART etc for an embedded device will be added advantage. Working experience in developing product with Cybersecurity in mind as per IEC62443 standard will be an added advantage. Experience in developing firmware for product that involves motor control interface will be an added advantage. Experience working in Actuators / Electric actuators will be advantageous. SAFe Agile certification (Scrum Master) will be a plus. Familiarity with Innovation framework to enable Innovation / new ideas in developing solutions to engineering problems. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Experience working in 32-bit Micro-controllers / Microprocessor with strong understanding of controller architecture and peripherals. Prior experience of full product development life cycle from requirement to product launch. Expert programming skills in C / C++ TCP/IP based communication protocols for device communication Low level firmware development for peripherals like Ethernet / USB / DDR / I2C / SPI / UART / Display etc Designing product firmware with best industry practices to have modular/maintainable/optimized product firmware that meets expectations. Strong Analytical and debugging skills. Should have designed system from grounds up or be a part of the project that helped develop this experience. Willingness to learn new technology & develop solution needed to meet product needs. Dealing with ambiguous requirements and developing clarity that meets business objectives. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Communication Protocols - HART, Bluetooth, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET will be advantageous. Experience working with standard development tools for configuration management, design, and tracking.
