Storage and Backup Consultant

This role has been designated as 'Edge', which means you will primarily work outside of an HPE office.

:

GMS Commvault Engineer is a key member of backup team. This individual will handle admin, operate, and monitor tasks of backup solution and provide Commvault Technical support for GMS customers.

:

  • Supporting and troubleshooting Commvault backup, recovery and archiving in a large, complex and widely distributed environment.
  • Communicate Technical action plan, drive internal HPE Technical Teams / Customer / Partner communications.
  • Capable of working constructively in a highly pressurized environment. Willing to work after office hours to manage critical customer escalations when necessary 24x7 availability as required for 'Out of Hours' (OOH) coverage. Demonstrates the ability to work with and be sensitive to other cultures.
  • Skilled in utilizing methodologies for problem management and resolution of escalated issues.
  • Create opportunities to increase the competence of the work group in a proactive and consistent way. Identifies and communicates possible process changes that will remedy inefficiencies as appropriate.
  • Drive virtual technical teams within HPE / Partner in order to isolate the cause of Commvault technical issue
  • Work with the Commvault support Vendor, customer account team, HPE / Partner onshore and offshore teams, as well as other stakeholders like Managed Services Manager, Consultants, Customer Business Manager, Escalation manager etc.
  • Plan and implement best practices for backup solutions.
  • Create and update documentation for Commvault backup procedures, solutions, licensing and applicable project artifacts.
  • Job specific responsibilities include maintaining complex Commvault Backup Solutions which may involve Virtual libraries, Disk to Disk Backup systems, physical Tape Libraries, OS, Backup Software, Switch, SAN or Library components.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • Technologies and Concepts - Domain expertise in Commvault Backup solution, Enterprise backup environment, Snapshots, Intellisnaps, Backup Policies, Media Agents, in-depth understanding of Commvault Backup environment.
  • Awareness of Virtualization technologies (at least one), Storage Array (at least), SAN concepts, D2D & Tape Library concepts including associated technologies in an Enterprise multi-site Backup environment, to be able to drive meaningful technical discussions.
  • Experience on Commvault Troubleshooting, Configuration, Upgrade, Policies, extensive understanding of Backup and Restore options.
  • Understanding of end to end monitoring of Commvault Environment using SNMP, Email alerting, customize alerting options from CommCell, Media Agent Server etc. with skills on collaborating with Experts from ITSM Tool like ServiceNow to configure, deploy Commvault backup solution.
  • Understanding of configuring, deploying Disaster Recovery options using Commvault.
  • Understanding of Datacenter Technologies - Server, Networking, Storage, Virtualization, Operating Systems, Security, Backup/Restore/DR etc.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and ticketing tools like ServiceNow, SFDC, Solar Winds, Nagios.
  • Problem detection and analysis of root cause.
  • Entry level of planning, project management and change management skills.
  • Plan and configure Commvault logical components like storage policies, schedule policies and subclient policies.
  • Troubleshooting backup failures, escalate issues to next peers and do followups
  • Experience on Commvault architecture with multiple CIs involved.
Experience:
  • 2+ years of Commvault installation, Configuration, Troubleshooting experience in an Enterprise environment.
  • Professional degree with 2+ years related IT experience.
  • Hands on experience in Operations and Support on Commvault Backup application.
  • Aptitude towards problem solving and troubleshooting skills on Tape Libraries, Library Management software, SAN connectivity, Commvault Backup software etc., including log analysis.
  • Knowledge of Remote Support and Remote monitoring processes and concepts
Certifications:
  • Ideal candidate will be trained & certified in Commvault.
  • ITIL Foundation certification preferred
