About the Role
We are looking for a passionate, entrepreneurial, hands-on Sr Engineering Director / VP of Engineering to lead the CRM engineering team and be a servant leader to the 80-100 software developers, and managers within Capillary. In this role, you will be responsible for leading several engineering groups consisting of front-end and Back-end engineers to drive innovation in full-stack product development, while relentlessly improving performance, scalability, and maintainability. We are looking to hire a thought leader and a world-class engineer who has a proven record of creating an impact on business and engineering with little or no help. Professionals at this will have a deep impact on a wide variety of business and technology decisions spanning multiple projects.
We are looking for a strong technology leader with the ability to translate the business requirements into an engineering execution plan and deliver to the commitments on an ongoing basis. The candidate should bring solid exposure to different technology patterns, and systems, and should serve as an inspiring leader for his/her group.
Responsibilities
Technical Guidance
You will provide technical leadership to a team of excellent software engineers; this requires that you have the technical depth to make complex design decisions and the ability to lead by example.
Execution and Delivery
You will be expected to instill and follow good software development practices and ensure timely delivery of high-quality products. You should be familiar with agile practices as well as be able to adapt these to the needs of the business, with a constant focus on product quality.
Team management
This will be a key responsibility, and the candidate will own the hiring and mentoring of the team; helping individuals grow in their careers, having a constant dialogue about their aspirations, and sharing prompt, clear, and actionable feedback about performance.
Technical depth
You have the strong technical competence required to gain credibility. Ability to architect, design, and review code of the team. Technical experience in building and operating cloud-native applications and microservices. Deep understanding of all layers of the web-stack work from the client interface to the databases - from Relational to Non-Relational Databases. Knowledge of multiple technology stacks/languages/tools and their pros/cons is expected from this role.
Execution ability
Focus on delivering products in a timely manner with high quality. Familiarity with multiple software development practices and tools, and the proven ability to adapt, champion and institute good practices and tools.
Create Plans and Systems
Create and implement best practice engineering vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve business performance. Ensure that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality, and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market. Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process. Take ownership of the engineering policy, guidelines, and any associated documents.
General and Task Management
Work with the Pre-sales, Sales, and Customer Success teams to ensure customers are getting the maximum value from our products, and systems. Develop planning and prioritize processes to ensure that multi-disciplinary teams are well aligned to maximize the delivery of projects.
Oversee Developmental Processes
This role is charged with the task of evaluating schedules, quality assurance procedures, and new releases in order to assess their value. Since the end goal is to ensure that the engineering process runs smoothly, these developmental processes must be examined systematically and carefully so that the positive and negative aspects of each one can be properly weighed.
Continuous Improvement
Demonstrated thought leadership and a passion for identifying and pursuing new ideas and leveraging continuous improvement processes. Championed continuous improvement strategies to improve software bug rates and overall product quality. Work with production facilities to provide designs and processes for continuous improvement. Established and drove a clear and consistent culture of transparency, predictability, agility, continuous improvement, and accountability.
Relationship Management
Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance. Work with the rest of the leadership team to decide which engineering projects are the highest priority against the business targets and which can be executed with the available teams. Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the engineering strategy
Other Responsibilities

  • Hiring - Build really good hiring and retention processes along with the other engineering management to build a solid engineering team.
  • Team Happiness - Build clean and good processes, and growth plans for the team with the other engineering management to ensure that the teams are motivated, have high morale, and are able to happily work without getting burned out.
  • Remove Blockers - Ensure that there are no blockers in executing the business and product visions and the team is able to achieve their goals with good efficiency
  • Strategy - Accountable for executing the technical strategy and roadmap as decided along with the executive team
  • Technical Leadership - Work with the architects and principal engineers to decide and keep the architecture, tools, code, etc simple, clean, and effective.
  • Product Releases - Bring the best project management skills on the table and ensure product releases happen as per the expectations
  • Performance Measurement - Ensure high productivity and growth of the engineering team members
  • Costs - Accountable for the costs across engineering. Be it managing salaries, vendor costs, server bills, travel, and other miscellaneous expenses.

In a nutshell, We are looking for an incumbent to write the next chapter in our engineering group. You will have complete ownership of the technical and product roadmap and work closely with the Product, Business, and Operations teams. You will be responsible for scoping, architectural design, working with other technology teams, and running the iterative rollout of features. All the systems we build/manage are critical to the success of the business. This means quality and reliability are paramount and large-scale launches must be threaded carefully without impacting day-to-day business. Job Requirement

Requirements
  • 12-15+ years of experience in a fast-paced technology-heavy environment. You should have managed teams of at least 70+ people for over 2 years. Should be adept at setting goals for managers or managers.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills, both written and oral, in English.
  • The candidate should have a past history of delivering products that solve real customer problems and deliver customer satisfaction.
  • Proven ability to apply a wide range of managerial tools to ensure that individuals and teams are organized, motivated, and informed, and to choose the best one for a given situation. Ability to mentor/motivate, and inspire the team to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Deep empathy for the Customer mindset. Proven ability to think Customer-first and effectively prioritize and escalate customer issues as required.
  • Strong Project Management skills to drive strategic initiatives, and make data-backed decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization, including executive and C-level.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you must take on multiple responsibilities, and execute at both the strategic and tactical level to get things done.
  • The candidate should have a high emotional quotient with the ability to maintain a calm, composed demeanor even in high-pressure situations.
  • BTech/BE/BSc/MSc Degree in Computer Science/Mathematics, or a relevant stream.
