About the role

Reporting to the Overpayments Project Lead, the Payroll Advisor will ensure UCL remain compliant in in respect of Project activities - Recovery of salary overpayments. - Chase individuals, liaise with queries and escalations as required - Staff (leavers or not) overpayments investigation and calculations - To work with the other HR Services colleagues to ensure all transactions are processed accurately in the system and within published service standards and/or process deadlines. Duties and responsibilities: \xe2\x80\xa2 Responsible for the maintaining and updating of overpayment records via the integrated HR/Payroll system, document management system or other UCL systems, in accordance with procedures and service standards \xe2\x80\xa2 Ensure all data relating to overpayments is accurate and in line policy and process. \xe2\x80\xa2 Input overpayments data onto database on a daily basis. \xe2\x80\xa2 Responsible for accurate and timely correspondence. \xe2\x80\xa2 Monitor using all appropriate reports and expertise, all overpayments in accordance with project requirements \xe2\x80\xa2 Maintain a suite of MI for Project Lead and Senior Management, including production, analysis and remedy of any resulting issues, in collaboration with internal teams as appropriate. \xe2\x80\xa2 Support the HR Services teams and Finance on any compliance and governance requirements . \xe2\x80\xa2 Act as a first line support, providing support and guidance to all affected employees and management of complex pay queries. \xe2\x80\xa2 Work as a proactive team member in order to ensure that the work for the team as a whole is completed accurately and within the relevant timescales. \xe2\x80\xa2 Responsible for developing effective, positive relationships with customers, departmental contacts and Professional Services colleagues, to create a dependable working relationship and positively assist in meeting their business needs, liaising with employees and internal departments. \xe2\x80\xa2 Be responsible for maintaining and updating your own continuous professional development. \xe2\x80\xa2 To follow and actively promote the UCL HR Work Ethic Principles \xe2\x80\xa2 To actively follow UCL policies including Equal Opportunities policies and be expected to give consideration within their role as to how they can actively advance equality of opportunity and good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it. \xe2\x80\xa2 To carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager or Head of Department/Division.

About you

Qualifications, experience and knowledge A comprehensive knowledge of PAYE and Payroll Procedures including processing statutory payments and manual calculations. Essential Experience of using a HR and payroll database (Oracle would be an advantage). Essential High level of numeracy skills with the ability to undertake manual and often complex calculations, supported by the use of spreadsheets. Essential Relevant experience of working within a payroll team processing a payroll and providing teamwork and support in order to ensure all relevant actions have been undertaken by relevant deadlines. Essential To have already obtained or to be currently undertaking a Payroll Qualification (CIPP or AAT). Desirable Experience of internal or external audits Desirable Skills and abilities Commitment to maintain and keep up to date with changes in legislation and procedures relating to the role. Essential Proven experience of a consistently high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Essential A team player, able to meet service standards at a personal, team and section level Essential Proven experience of managing own workload through effective prioritising, time management, organisational skills, and able to both motivate oneself Essential Excellent communication skills, both written & oral, with the ability to explain complex arrangements regarding Tax, NI and pensions as well as the ability to draft written communications in a clear, concise and logical format. Essential Ability to manage and analyse data and provide reports where appropriate Essential An analytical approach to evaluating process and policies Essential Personal attributes A positive, flexible, customer focussed attitude. Essential Computer literacy and familiarity with the Microsoft suite of software to intermediate level in Word, Excel and Outlook. Ability to use the internet. Essential
