The IQ optical Network is a high capacity and scalable optical infrastructure, enables customers to leverage market opportunities and meet the challenge of the rising bandwidth demand driven by the Internet, richer application environments and cloud computing.

Colt Optical Engineering team is responsible for the end-to-end engineering of the Colt optical network : Technology lifecycle, long term architecture, solution design, testing and production network engineering- greenfield & brownfield network planning.

As a member of Optical Engineering function, candidate will get a unique opportunity as a consultant to work on the development of the production optical network to keep it optimized, scalable and operable.

Key accountabilities

• Keeping up-to-date on Industry developments within relevant standards bodies (e.g. IEEE, ITU-T, OIF, Open RODM etc. ) and contribute towards the long term strategy for future network developments.
• Being part of optical engineering, candidate to play consultant role in order to govern the short and long term network deployments to ensure the optimum cost, long term scalability and easy to operate.
• Transform the network architecture in order to deliver the current and future forecasted demands with an objective to lowering down the network cost on regular basis without compromising on the service SLA.
• Estimate and create network plan for trend based traffic profile as well as given sales forecasts. Also plan cost effective network architecture as per the estimated network/capacity plan.
• Design the greenfield and brownfield network in Long-Haul and metro DWDM regions. Evaluate deployment architectures and translate them to vendor requirements/roadmaps
• Understand the data requirements for long term network decisions, Develop and implement data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
• Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets in order to draw conclusions for building network strategy.
• Deliver the support to Service Delivery and operations on regular basis and provide the necessary support up to high technical, business and professional standards and ensuring strong customer satisfaction and success.

Key performance indicators (financial and non-financial)

The main KPI for this role would be to ensure the network architecture and capacity available for the current pipeline as well as future forecasted demands within agreed SLA of network cost & service performance. Also ensure that network is fully optimized in order to make best use of network resources.

Role specific requirements

Skills & Experience

• 10+ years' experience in Network Planning/Engineering in optical domain
• Conceptual and Advanced technical knowledge on Optical Engineering aspects e.g. DWDM, OTN, ROADM, Optical Amplifiers, Industry standards on data transfer interfaces, Pluggable etc
• Familiarity with data, management and control planes technologies as well as DCN network architectures.
• Working knowledge of optical transmission design principles including fibre types, chromatic dispersion, polarisation mode dispersion, power budgeting, optical amplification and attenuation, optical return loss, wavelength planning etc
• Ability to create technical design of the optical nodes, topology and Architecture of optical network.
• Excellent presentation skills particularly related to long term network strategy & Architecture.
• Understanding and experience of layer 2 concepts as VLAN, VPN, MPLS-TP and SD-WAN etc
• Development and introduction of new products which involves in-depth technical and commercial assessment to determine the impacts on unit cost, product architecture and the overall operational process.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team, Also ability to work with people from any levels of the organization.
• Data Analytics on network traffic to report the traffic profile.
• Extensive Knowledge on MS Excel -Macros, Pivots, Formula etc.

Qualifications

• B.E/B. Tech in Electronics/Telecommunications/Electrical Eng.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is must - candidate is expected to communicate with colleagues across Europe, Asia and US.
