Department Description The Technology function within the Enterprise Teschnology Services (ETS) department provides IT services to the Fidelity International business, globally. These include the development and support of business applications that underpin our revenue, operational, compliance, finance, legal, marketing and customer service functions. The broader organisation incorporates Infrastructure services that the company relies on to operate on a day to day basis including data centre, networks, proximity services, security, voice, incident management and remediation. The Platform team - Unix, Virtualisation, storage and iSeries team are responsible for physical/virtual Infrastructures, OS, DevOps - configuration management, multiple tools and technology, supporting operations and delivering these services to the FIL business units. The platform teams have global responsibilities, delivering a regional support service through a virtual model, with staff located in our UK, Dublin, India and Asia offices. Purpose of the Role The Senior Technical Consultant for the Virtualisation Core Platform team covers small projects to help develop the strategy, infrastructure, engineering and operational environment for the Virtualisation Core Platform as well as BAU functions. The Virtualisation infrastructure provides virtual compute based resource used to host mission critical systems and desktop services for over 5000 systems. Reporting to the Virtualisation Associate Director, the individual will be expected to be structured, process oriented and happy working to tough deadlines in a demanding environment. The main technology components used within the team to provide these services are as follows: VMware vCenter VMware ESXi Aria Suite (formerly vRealize) inc. Operations (vROPS), Orchestration (vRO), Automation (vRA), Operations for Logs (vRLI) and Operations for Networks (vRNI) VMware Cloud Foundation vSAN NSX DellEMC VxRail Key Responsibilities Maintain the health status of all infrastructure components required to support the virtual platform Build and enhance Virtual infrastructure components to provide a cost-effective solution Security and patch management of the VMware components and related support tools Provide day to day technical support Proactive capacity management of the virtual platform Maintain and develop relationships with the platform teams, and service providers to the virtual platform Monitor issues and provide management reports on incidents and problem management Ensure all activities are compliant with security and regulatory requirements Provide out of hours support for the Virtual Infrastructure Technical Engineering Follow new initiatives, technologies and hardware specifications, providing recommendations and key updates to line management Attend vendor business briefings and / or workshops on Virtualisation with the view on how new products and operating practices could be adopted Provide virtualisation technical guidance and assistance to management, the team and the business, as required Essential skills: Excellent \'hands on\' working knowledge of VMware technologies, including VMware vSphere 6.x, 7.x and vCenter. Experienced in managing multi-host enterprise class Virtual infrastructure using VMware technologies including HA clusters, DRS, storage and network subsystems Working knowledge of vRealize Automation, vRealize Orchestrator and IaaS systems. Programming experience with JavaScript or Python an advantage Excellent knowledge of Dell PowerEdge class servers and Dell VxRail an advantage Excellent knowledge of the Aria Suite of tools, Operations experience required, experience of Automation an advantage Excellent problem-solving skills Working knowledge of VDI implementations, and Citrix technologies, including XenApp and XenDesktop Knowledge of cloud technologies such as Azure, AWS, VMware Cloud on AWS Strong experience of network / server monitoring and capacity planning tools Strong knowledge of networking technologies (DNS, VLANs, subnets, routing), NSX an advantage Strong knowledge of storage solutions and connectivity (Dell EMC, vSAN, FC, iSCSI, NFS) Natural inclination to share knowledge and disseminate information throughout all project phases, with attention to handover education A \'Can Do\' attitude and a high level of commitment to customer service Dynamic and flexible attitude with an ability to adapt to new requirements Ability to re-prioritise and organise rapidly to respond to changing business requirements Awareness of the impact of change to the business environment, and to support teams Ability to communicate technical issues in non-technical terms to business people Good documentation and presentation skills Happy to work at Fidelity sites across the UK and India/China when required Personal Characteristics: Self driven, enthusiastic about technology, innovative in approach Ability to thrive in a technology driven, rapidly changing and expanding environment A desire to do things the right way, whilst remaining focused on team and business objectives Requirements of Role: This role expects a level of out of hours and weekend working - availability to support work the team is delivering, or for escalations This role requires occasional working from Fidelity offices outside of the India, and alignment to business working hours of other regions such as the UK or China as required.
