Senior Software Development Manager

Year    Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Job Description

WebCargo digitizes global freight sales for over 2,000 of the world's largest logistics providers and carriers. Or, in plain English, we help move the world, offering incredible technology that powers almost a third of the global air cargo market.

We're not alone either. WebCargo is a proud part of the Freightos Group, a logistics technology company that aims to make global trade frictionless. That's not cheap, so we've raised nearly $100 million from investors like GE Ventures, the Singapore Exchange and Aleph, making and have gotten the excited about freight.

Turns out it's kind of a big deal. As one of the largest tech platforms for a huge industry (the phone or computer you're reading this on was, after all shipped), we've been crushing it with double-digit growth, year after year.

The perfect manager has amazing experience designing, architecting and implementing technology in greenfield areas as well as scaling established pieces of the technology stack. In other words, help us build a beautiful tech stack and keep our already pretty stack running. The successful candidate must come from a software architect or developer background. We like professional LEGO builders but it's just not enough.

The successful candidate should be able to manage people, process and products (and anything else you can think of that starts with the letter P). We expect the Senior Software Development Manager (aka you) to be a strategic thinker, a role model that leads by example, an innovator, an actual owner, an effective coach and mentor, and a great communicator. Yes, we expect a lot.

Responsibilities:

  • Set standards (that actually get enforced!), deploy mechanisms (that actually get used!) and create processes (that are awesome!) to deliver highly available and performing systems with end to end ownership on all services and product lines. In other words, build a great team that works.
  • Develop technical leaders and managers until they're good enough that headhunters try to steal them.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain software engineers to meet business growth needs while making sure that they say no to those head-hunters.
  • Create, sell and manage strategic plans with demonstrable results to grow the R&D organization and to deliver on the business goals.
  • Use data to make key decisions. Our average decision is made based on 6 data points (yes, we made that up).
  • Create a positive and transparent culture. The kind you'd want to work in.
  • Contribute to every part of the development and deployment cycle throughout the R&D organization.
  • A doer that finds creative ways to deliver quickly and to maximize the value of the team and organization efforts
Hybrid:
Yes

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Not sure if Super Master is a thing but if it is, that works too.
  • 5+ years of software engineering or software architecture; able to read, write and review code. In other words, you really like squiggly brackets.
  • 3+ years of building teams and organizations and managing and developing software engineering managers.
  • Excellent Computer Science fundamentals, problem-solving, and knowledge of current technologies.
  • Good knowledge of PHP. Because it's just that cool.
  • Outstandingly and incredibly excellent communication, self-organization, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be fluent in English with excellent reading, speaking and writing skills.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Good knowledge of Google/AWS cloud infrastructure and platforms (load balancers, storage, databases, and information security)
  • Good knowledge of Javascript (React) and Java
  • Experience in building teams and products in a startup environment.
  • Knowledge of the freight industry.
What you will be offered at Webcargo:
  • We strive for professional development and continuous learning. Apart from career support, you'll be entitled to get an annual training budget for personal and professional development.
  • Competitive salary and participation in the Long Term Incentive Plan ("LTIP") of the Freightos Group
  • Health Insurance.
  • Monday to Friday schedule, with regular office hours and flexibility.
  • Hybrid mode to work from both office and home.
  • Multicultural and open environment, full of great people from multiple countries.
  • Great office in
, in Chennai

WebCargo, a Freightos Group company, is an equal opportunities employer and we make every effort to ensure that all potential employees are treated fairly and equally.
