The Position

As a Manager of Instructional Design, you'll manage a team creating learning experiences that change people's lives. You'll primarily be responsible for Thinkful's new program efforts as it expands its offering into new domains and industries. You and your team will work closely with Thinkful's product marketing team to decide on which programs to build, as well as hiring managers and professionals to set the right learning objectives that will help students achieve job outcomes. You'll manage and review the work of your team of instructional designers and collaborate with the product and educational delivery teams to produce and maintain the core of the student experience. Ideally, we would like this individual to come into our office in Santa Clara, California weekly.

Experience and Qualifications

• Deep experience with and knowledge of current design-thinking, instructional design, and curriculum design approaches.
• Strong business acumen and experience designing learning experiences for paying customers (B2C).
• Proven track record of creating successful online, career-focused courses and programs for adult learners.
• Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and change to improve efficiencies and the effectiveness of learning solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior leaders, business partners, internal customers, and colleagues to drive business results.
• 7+ years of experience in curriculum development and/or Learning & Development in a complex environment; 3+ years leading teams of content developers.
• Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred or equivalent training or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Refine and improve Thinkful's curriculum design and development frameworks and processes.
• Perform market and user research, including direct collaboration with hiring managers, to design curricula for new programs.
• Collaborate with product, marketing, and operations teams to bring new programs to market.
• Lead the team of instructional designers and content developers focused on new course and program development.
• Develop and manage the content budget and related content success metrics for new programs.
• Evaluate 3rd party content providers and vendors to improve processes and quality.
• Define and execute quality assurance processes to drive quality for new programs.
• Ensure successful program execution from validation to design to launch, focusing on student and market needs

Within 1 month you will:

• Get to know your team
• Develop a strong understanding of Thinkful programs and processes
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define the new program roadmap
• Review and refine the curriculum validation and design process

Within 3 months you will:

• Guide your team to design curricula for new programs and validate target outcomes. with hiring managers and professionals.
• Recruit new instructional designers and subject matter experts to deliver on your vision.
• Review and refine quality assurance processes to ensure high quality content delivery.
• Develop a personal career growth plan for you and your team

Within 6 months you will:

• Build and launch several new programs in new industries from scratch
• Act as the team expert on pedagogy and instructional strategies
• Standardize processes using industry best practices
• Lead and mentor instructional designers and curriculum writers on your team
