Toast is scaling rapidly and with that growth comes an exciting new opportunity to join the management team for our new International group in Bangalore. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our APAC Growth team where we will be innovating to launch Toast into new markets and ensuring we are always winning. We are building one stop shop for restaurants to make it easier, faster, and more enjoyable to manage a successful restaurant. You will bring this power to new markets, innovate to continually win in these markets, and drive on our overall mission of making Toast a Global company.

As a Senior Engineering Manager on our team, you will:

• Lead an engineering team to deliver on the capabilities and innovations that will make Toast the leading hospitality POS provider in the regions we enter.
• Collaborate across R&D to build support needed to deliver on the capabilities our customers expect, facilitating technical discussions that drive business outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with Product and UX to get actionable, valuable work defined for the team
• Lead the QA function for your area of responsibility, balance time to market with customer experience.
• Ensure end-to-end delivery of software, including team ownership of monitoring and production issue remediation
• Coach individuals in professional and technical development to set up for their success
• Hire and mentor a team of high performing individuals, ensuring their success at Toast
• Evangelize the International mission in all R&D sites in India.

Do you have the right ingredients? (Experience)

• 8+ years mentoring and growing successful teams
• 5+ years of managing, coaching and growing successful teams
• Highly proficient knowledge in a high-level programming language
• Professional experience and proficient knowledge of Android/iOS
• Innovative and collaborative mindset, working with others to drive impact
• Experience working in a team with Agile/Scrum methodology
• Experience with i18n or Growth Engineering
• You have experience working with product teams to invent solutions that deliver good outcomes to our customers and the company
• A bias towards action, with the ability to balance between getting things done and making things perfect
• A strong sense of empathy for customers and teammates
• A desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritizes customer success

Our Tech Stack

Our products run on a stack that ranges from guest and restaurant-facing Android tablets to backend services in Java to internal, guest-facing and restaurant-facing web apps. Our backend services follow a microservice architecture written using Java and Kotlin on DropWizard; we use AWS extensively, ranging from S3 to RDS to DynamoDB to Lambda. We have our own platform for dealing with service elevations and robust load balancing. We store data in PostgreSQL databases or DynamoDB tables depending on use case, and utilize Apache Spark for large scale data workloads including query and batch processing. The web frontend is built using React and ES6. Our restaurant point of sale application is an Android application written in Java and Kotlin. Apache Pulsar and Camel are used extensively in our integration transaction workflow processing.
