Toast is growing in India! In addition to our software development team, we are building a captive Finance shared services team. As the local Accounting shared services team leader, you\'ll collaborate with Toast\'s Global Accounting Leaders to enable their strategies and build a high-performing accounting shared services team in India. This is a dynamic role that will be foundational in the creation of our accounting shared services strategy, and in providing inspirational leadership and career development opportunities for our team.

The Senior Accounting Manager will primarily be responsible for driving continuous improvements in the month-end cycle. This position is also accountable for the ongoing oversight of process improvement, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The ideal candidate should have substantive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, processes, and procedures and will be involved in laying the foundation of a scalable accounting function.

About this roll* (Responsibilities)

  • Collaborate with global accounting leaders to understand their broader strategies and specific shared services strategy, and influence these strategies based on local knowledge and experience.
  • Collaborate with the global accounting leaders who will functionally direct the work performed by the team (e.g. A/P, GL accounting, Revenue) to monitor, understand and communicate performance of teammates (quantitative/metrics-based and qualitative) and provide feedback and coaching to help develop the team.
  • Understand the KPIs, SLA\'s, SOPs and/or other forms of guidance for work to be performed by the team in India that are developed by global finance teams, and help to refine and influence further development of the approach for ensuring consistent high-quality work and the monitoring of its performance, including reporting.
  • As the functional management team working under you is built out, help to direct the shared services work performed by the local team (e.g. A/P, G/L accounting, Billing, etc.).
  • Collaborate with global finance leaders and with Toast\'s local Talent Acquisition team to attract and retain the outstanding talent needed to fulfill Toast\'s business plans in India.
  • Collaborate with the local People team to bring Toast\'s global talent programs to life for Finance employees in India, ensuring that employees can have a long and fulfilling career path at Toast. Ensure appropriate training and development opportunities are available.
  • Provide inspiring leadership to the Finance team in India, connecting them to the broader global Finance team and Toast\'s mission.
  • As Finance lead for the India legal entity, ensure appropriate accounting and reporting under US and Indian GAAP, and compliance with local laws and regulations. Provide guidance to Toast\'s global finance team on local requirements.
  • As a member of the Toast India leadership team, collaborate with other members of the leadership team on important matters impacting the company\'s teammates and operations in India.
  • Manage, mentor, and support accounting team members to drive continuous improvement on month-end close processes, technical accounting matters, and accounting policies.
  • Responsible for driving the month-end close process, which includes balance sheet reconciliations, ad-hoc analyses, trial balance reviews, and financial statement preparation, while adhering to tight deadlines.
  • Responsible for reviewing general ledger activity across all lines of business.
  • Improve account reconciliation process, drive deadlines, enhance deliverables as they pertain to the month-end close and financial statement preparation process.
  • Liaise with outside firms for audit and tax matters.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures, as well as identify new policies and areas of improvement.
  • Assist FP&A team with budget and forecasting processes.
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
  • 10+ years of experience with a degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CA or CPA or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong track record of building and managing successful teams, and an ability to manage and motivate team members in a changing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with various levels of management and to influence others without formal authority.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity, confidentiality and professional skepticism.
  • Experience and skilled at working in a collaborative and fast moving environment.
Special Sauce* (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves)
  • Prior audit experience or experience working with external auditors is highly desirable.
  • NetSuite experience preferred.
