The Security Research Manager will report to the Director, Security Research. Zscaler's Security Research Organization (ThreatLabZ) of Zscaler is looking for a Security Research Manager to lead a highly energetic and motivated Security Research Team based out of our Bangalore, India location. The Security Research Manager will report to the Director, Security Research. Team tasking spans across identifying & tracking new threats and vulnerabilities, conducting various research projects to come-up with ideas for remediation, collaboration with PM & Engineering teams on efficacy-focused initiatives and improvements. The role requires a wealth of Cyber Security, Incident Response, Threat Research & leadership experience..

ThreatLabZ is the security research arm of Zscaler. This world-class team is responsible for hunting new threats and ensuring that the 15 million users on the global Zscaler platform are always protected. In addition to malware research and behavioral analysis, team members are involved in the research and development of new prototype modules for advanced threat protection on the Zscaler platform, and regularly conduct internal security audits to ensure that Zscaler products and infrastructure meet security compliance standards. ThreatLabZ regularly publishes in-depth analyses of new and emerging threats on its portal, research.zscaler.com.

Responsibilities/What You'll Do:

• Responsible to manage energetic, motivated & growing Threat Research Team & foster the environment and the culture where Threat Researchers can do their best research
• Provide technical guidance and career development for individual contributors
• Bring continuous improvements in internal & external processes & recommend modifications to security tools/automation/infrastructure to bring efficiency
• Build relationship & effectively collaborate with other Threat Research Teams within ThreatLabZ & cross functional teams such as Engineering/PM/QA/Support etc
• Take initiatives & drive efficacy focused research projects within Security Research Team & drive product improvements with cross functional teams
• Contribute to design and development of new efficacy related projects
• Manage customer escalations & address complex customer situations related to security incidents.
• Derive quarterly MBOs and monitor employee performance metrics on a quarterly basis
• Take new initiatives and bring-in improvements in existing thought leadership programs

Qualifications

• 12+ years of total exp. in Cyber Threat Research domain 1/ 5+ years of leadership experience
• Advanced understanding of current threats & trends in Cyber Security & Technology field
• Excellent understanding of Windows internals & experienced in static and behavioral malware analysis using the industry known tools like IDA, Cuckoo Sandbox, x32/64dbg, Ghidra
• Very Strong understanding of n/w/system vulnerabilities, detection engines like Snort/YARA and their rule languages, operational understanding of different types of known C2 framework
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, L2/L3 communications, L7 protocols like HTTP, SSL, DNS, SMB, DHCP, LDAP etc
• Deep knowledge on assessing threat indicators in Windows Environment - E.g., Malicious behavior in the system, abnormal n/w activities, admin level compromise etc
• Experienced in developing, refining and performing advanced analysis to uncover new or potential incidents & prepare technical reports / blogs
• Experienced in security related forums & industry events for cyber threats & digital crimes
• Experienced in driving cyber threat research specific projects & measuring success criteria
• Excellent verbal and written communication

Qualification:

• B.E/M.E/B.Tech/M.Tech in Computer Science or Information Technology OR BCA/MCA
• Cyber Security Specific certifications desirable
