The Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) is a non-profit international research institute dedicated to food, nutrition and livelihood security as well as environmental rehabilitation in South Asia, which is home to more than 300 million undernourished people. We are seeking a dynamic, and self-motivated professional with excellent organizational and people skills for the position of Research Associate-Breeding.

The position will be based at Ludhiana or Jabalpur.

The main responsibilities of this position will be:

• Management of Wheat breeding trials such as BNI, heat stress tolerance, drought tolerance etc. at all BISA farms which includes: trial constitution, trial monitoring, data collection from all trial sites, compilation and analysis.
• Screening of advanced elite wheat lines for yellow rust at Ludhiana and participate in data collection from other NARS research sites.
• Manage wheat genomic and wheat quality lab activities for all genotyping work monitor to keep all instrument in running condition.
• Assist in training organization, logistic arrangements of visitors and training participants as well as deliver high quality presentation in the trainings related to the breeding and genomics.
• Participate in meetings with partners representing BISA in various forums.
• Data management, analysis, report writing and scientific publications.
• Coordinate with NARS on various trials data collection and compilation.
• Evaluation and monitoring of picture collected digitally for crop loss assessment and coordinate with the field team for survey data collection.
• Perform support activities that are requited in the program, according to the instruction of your supervisor.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes:

• Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding with minimum 4-5 years of field experience.
• Candidate must have proven ability to design experiment, interpret results and write research papers.
• Ability to manage large scale field trials.
• Candidate must have good oral and written skills in English.
• Familiar with high throughput phenotyping tools.
• Experience with handling of mapping populations and molecular lab equipment, and genotyping is required.
• Candidate must have experience with GWAS and statistical analysis of breeding trials.
• Desirable: The candidate having NET qualified will be preferred.
• The candidate must hold a valid driving license and able to drive vehicle to commute themselves.
• Must have institutional competencies skills i.e. teamwork, communication, client orientation, critical thinking.

The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds. CIMMYT-BISA offers an attractive remuneration package, with a range of benefits including health insurance.
