Programme Associate Purpose We are looking for a curious researcher for our Delhi office who has the ability to ask the right questions, conduct stellar research on the nexus between agriculture and air quality, build trusted relationships with government stakeholders, farmers and other relevant organisations, and support the advancement of the research and policy engagement for air quality. S/he should be a structured thinker and effective communicator with a strong research background. About the focus area The Clean Air programme at CEEW is committed to reducing particulate concentrations in the Indo-Gangetic Plain by 60 per cent by 2030. Backed by rigorous data analysis, integrated research and strategic communications and stakeholder engagement, our work is geared towards strengthening data-driven air quality management in the country. The three pillars guiding our work are:

Job Duties and Accountabilities Research
  • Undertake robust qualitative and quantitative research to solve for agricultural residue burning in the Indo-Gangetic Plain. This include but are not limited to (i) conducting a systematic literature review, (ii) framing research questions, (iii) devising questionnaires for key informant interviews/stakeholder consultations, (iv) conducting relevant analyses using appropriate qualitative or quantitative methods and (v) summarising the arguments in a coherent narrative in different formats.
  • Regularly track policy measures taken by the government and their implementation status related to air quality, bioenergy and the agricultural sector
  • Write high-quality research reports, publish in leading peer-reviewed journals and generate other knowledge products such as blogs, policy briefs for different audiences at regular intervals
  • Participate in relevant conferences, workshops, and training programmes for a comprehensive understanding of air quality management in India and globally.
  • Work with senior researchers on conceptualising new projects (as and when needed)
Programme Assistance
  • Assist with project implementation, including help with preparing presentations, factsheets and other communication material
  • Support efforts to use media platforms for the wide dissemination of CEEW\'s work and, in turn, closer engagement with the wider community
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and assist with preparing minutes
  • Accompany the other team members for meetings with other stakeholders; prepare minutes of the meetings and assist with relevant follow up
Stakeholder engagement
  • Travel to field sites, whenever necessary and if feasible, to conduct fieldwork including focus group discussions, interviews, meetings, and training
  • Candidate must be willing to travel to Punjab (or other states) for a minimum of 4-5 days every month
  • Support coordination and collect relevant data from relevant stakeholders (government officials, farmers, civil societies and others) in Punjab
Shortlisting Criteria Qualifications
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a specialisation in Environmental Science/Environmental Engineering/Environmental policy/Agriculture/Agricultural Economics. A (under) graduate degree in other disciplines, but credentials showcasing an understanding of environmental challenges, specifically air pollution, is a must.
  • Should have a strong background in data analytics and an inclination toward analytical research
  • Experience in dealing with environmental data sets is preferred
Work Experience
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in policy research and engagement, preferably in the areas of air quality management or Punjab\xe2\x80\x99s agricultural systems.
Key skills
  • Must be proficient in English and Hindi. Language proficiency in Punjabi is preferred.
  • Proficient in data analytical tools like Python or R
  • Strong proficiency with various quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to varied socio-cultural, ecological, and political contexts
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to write coherent and concise emails, opinion pieces, policy briefs, and reports
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and confidence to engage with administrative, political, and business leaders
