Applied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterised by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.

Subfamily Description

Software (SWA) comprises the definition, specification, and allocation of requirements from different sources utilising knowledge of systems engineering processes (specification & architecture). Contains processing of use case and feature requirements into conceptual models, operational scenarios, technical requirements, and functional description. Covers specification, design, implementation, and unit testing of Software (e.g. device drivers, microcode, hardware-related software & firmware) according to the requirements and architecture defined in the systems engineering process. Covers establishment and maintenance of Software Configuration Management (SCM) practices into software development projects, continuously building and integrating infrastructure tools and systems.


  • Independently works within broad guidelines and uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues (EG plans, tests, and assures end-to-end integration of operations automation; customises automation based on rules and scripts for advanced specific solutions and complex customer configurations.

  • Works with substantial discretion and uses specialist knowledge, analytical skills, judgment and broad conceptual and practical experience to solve complex problems and to contribute to MS operations automation innovative solutions and process improvements.

  • Makes recommendations for professional direction of team.

  • May lead medium-sized projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.

  • Makes recommendations based on specific customer operations automation on enhancements to standard MS service operations automation and / or for application to specific types of customer configuration.

  • Provides informal guidance and support to experienced Managed Services Development Operations (MS DevOps) team members with regard to advanced techniques and procedures to follow and approaches required to perform the job effectively.



As part of our team, you will be:
  • The DevOps Engineer will be involved across the entire life cycle of the development process. They are responsible for the design and implementation of applications\xe2\x80\x99 build, release, deployment, and configuration activities
  • Assist with testing and deployment of applications to DEV/TEST/PROD environments.
  • Develop/extend modules for automating environment deployments and managing environment configurations.
  • Perform administration and engineering duties for application servers in Unix/Linux environments.
  • Software Configuration Management (SCM)
    • Better build automation (stateless continuous integration templates)
    • Work on continuous integration build plans \xe2\x80\x93 making them stateless and easier to use / maintain.
    • Diagnose and troubleshoot day to day issues users may experience with the build and test infrastructures.
  • Software engineering tools integration
    • Improve engineering infrastructure with better tooling (IDE, issue tracking, intranet, source code control, code review, etc.)
    • Improve engineering productivity and efficiency from coding quality to success
Your skills and experience
  • Experience within Linux server environments using Servers such as: Redhat, Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, or CentOS
  • Experience with Docker and Container Orchestration Tools like Kubernetes
  • Experience with managing source code repositories, including branching and merging of code lines (Git/Github, Gitops)
  • Experience with build/deployment automation tools
  • Able to automate processes by programming and executing in Ruby/Groovy/Python/Bash/Golang.
  • Ability to contribute to Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) tooling like GitLab, Jenkins, Make, Maven etc
  • Knowledge of HTML, YAML, Markdown (.md), GIT, HTTP, REST, gRPC
  • Knowledgeable about network management - configuring and maintaining routers, switches, wireless access points. Storage Management \xe2\x80\x93 NetApp/EMC , NAS/SAN
  • Experience in vulnerability management
  • Understanding of security hardening principles
