PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Network Infrastructure Team provides IP, Ethernet, Wireless, security, and surveillance services to the university campus and user community. The Network Manager is responsible for Network & security architecture, implementation upgrades, and mission-critical service requiring stability, reliability, and performance optimization. As part of this role, the Network Manager will manage a group of network engineers including hiring, training, mentoring, and performance evaluations. He/she Manager is expected to have a strong hands-on background in routing, switching, wireless, network virtualization, firewall security and security surveillance
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and networking, security, security surveillance, and associated equipment and technologies as well as serve as a project manager and escalation resource for campus builds and expansions activities. The Network Manager will ensure adherence to best practices and proven methodologies to promote continuous information operations and the integration of new value-added technical services and technology.

Key Responsibilities: Leads and directs a Network & Communications team and is responsible for the planning, design, engineering, testing, implementation, operation, extension, installation, repair, maintenance, improvement, and monitoring of a progressive, secure, and robust converged voice, video, and data network infrastructure. Provides technical leadership and expertise across LAN, WLAN, WAN, Unified Communications, and VPN operating environments supporting multiple centres as well as a mobile workforce Design, build and support modernized architecture and services including cloud services and SDN Drive modernization, automation, and optimization to continuously improve operational effectiveness, agility, performance, availability, and cost of the network services and staff Support modernized architecture and services including cloud services and SDN Manage the day-to-day workload and priorities of existing and new tasks, requests, and projects against available resources and expected service level agreements Develop wireless performance data, metrics, algorithms, and reports to measure and track client, exhibitor, attendee, and staff wireless experiences against service standards. Continuously assess, test, improve and document 24x7 monitoring network and security infrastructure including alarming, logs, and event management. Develop Network usage and security policy and maintain ongoing assessment of security environment and recommend solutions for safeguarding the internal and external networks Provide network design, security analysis/design, and implementation, definition, and coordination of standards, project management, and technology research Monitor, assess, and report on network and server bandwidth and resource utilization Coordinate and execute upon approved adjustments and changes that increase performance and availability Provide ongoing review of capacity requirements in order to align with budget planning Oversee inventory control database records for receiving, location and component tracking, asset status, reallocation, and disposal of the organizations hardware and software Manage database records for information regarding licenses, registrations, warranties, and service agreements for the organization\'s hardware and software Manage procurement and acquisition including specifications and negotiation with vendors, outsources, and contractors to secure software, services, and hardware Oversee all projects and monitor the screening, scoping, scheduling, budget, deliverables, communication, and documentation Meet with University committees and officials, interface with peer institutions and numerous vendors, work with campus and project architects and campus planning committees, and serve on ad hoc committees. Keep abreast of emerging network and communications infrastructure technologies applicable to the University and remain highly technically competent. Work very closely with other digital infrastructure services and key stakeholders and user communities to provide world-class customer experience.

MANDATORY SKILLS: Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience In the design, implementation, and support of layered network models at the Access, Distribution/Aggregation, Core, and Datacenter locations Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and support of BGP in an enterprise environment including turn ups, turn downs, in/out filters, prefix lists, route maps, AS prepending, and community attributes Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and support of layer 2 protocols including 802.1s MST, RSTP, MC-LAG, VLANS, BPDU Filter, Root Guard Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and support of layer 3 protocols including OSPF and VRRP. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and support of MPLS including VRF\xe2\x80\x99s, RVSP, LDP, VPLS, L3VPN, MP-BGP, route targets, route designers Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the selection, procurement, installation, and configuration of enterprise-class routers and switching products preferably from Cisco, HP, Juniper or comparable products from other vendors. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, implementation, and support of enterprise firewalls including security zones, policies, NAT, DMZ. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in 802.11 wireless principles including channel planning, cell capacity, RSSI, overlap, co-channel, radiation patterns, AP placement, antenna selection, and interference. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in external DNS, internal DNS, DHCP, NTP, RADIUS, and IPAM. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in SNMP/syslog monitoring preferably with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor, SolarWinds Log & Event Manager, SolarWinds NetFlow Collector, or comparable products from other vendors. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in security surveillance and campus security equipment of Motorola Good knowledge of all aspects of wired and wireless networks, network protocols (including TCP/IP, DNS & DHCP), network installation, configuration and performance, and remote access technologies Strong working knowledge of structured cabling systems, network facilities, UPS, and electrical A working knowledge of implementing and managing telephone and UCaaS systems Understanding of transport technologies including dark-fiber, DWDM, TDM, copper/fibre Knowledge of scripting tools, web development, and database design is a plus

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION Recognized Degree in Business IT or Computer Science related discipline or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience JNCIE or CCIE certified or equivalent network engineering expertise Familiarity with IT architectural frameworks and development methodologies, tools, and techniques. In-depth and substantive knowledge and experience in networking, security, and telecommunications infrastructure; maintenance procedures and equipment analysis; LAN/WAN/WLAN/VoIP using diverse transport protocols over copper, fibre optics, and wireless infrastructures; proven comprehensive knowledge of network and IT telecommunications concepts, principles, applications, system management, and design. 10+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with ITSM/ITIL best practices for complex, global IT organizations 5+ years of Project Management experience and proven track record in delivering complex projects Demonstrable experience and skills in performing cost analysis and justification of new technologies Demonstrable experience in using open source for building platforms
