Medical Assistant
1.0 Department Deck / Medical 2.0 Job Summary
  • To provide medical services to all Guests and Crewmembers. The Nurse Assistant shall assist the Staff Captain, Senior Doctor, Infectious Disease Prevention Officer, Doctor and Nurse in all shipboard health-related matters including outbreak prevention, and illness reporting as required by international, national and Company policies.
  • In order to consistently exceed guest expectations and provide the highest levels of product and services, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
3.0 Responsibility and Authority

  • Assume personal responsibility for safety and NCLH\xe2\x80\x99s impact upon the environment.
  • Help to maintain Guest illness logs and medical notes. Completes all paperwork associated with various medical situations.
  • Help to maintain Crewmember illness logs and Crewmember medical files.
  • Help to maintain injury logs and fill out accident reports.
  • Help to maintain current Crewmember physical examinations.
  • Help to maintain Health log for U.S.A and any other international Health reports as required.
  • Help to prepare and keep records of Medical Center charges.
  • Assist Code Alpha / Code Mike procedures.
  • Assist Air and land evacuation procedures.
  • Help to train the stretcher teams in Fire and Lifeboat drills, and first-aid training for Crewmembers.
  • Obtain and test water samples and cultures for growth of Coliform organisms.
  • Sterilize surgical instruments.
  • Help to maintain the current medications in lifeboat canisters once yearly.
  • Provide first aid supplies for first aid boxes.
  • Properly dispose of hazardous wastes and used sharps (needles, syringes).
  • Oversee and maintain cleanliness of the Medical Center in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Actively participate in the Crewmember and Guest education and training programs.
  • Ensure confidentiality of medical information.
  • Properly fill out and distribute all forms associated with the medical department.
  • Assist in mandatory random drug testing.
  • Execute and has a good working knowledge of all paperwork associated with the operations of the Medical Center
  • Be available at all times in order to assist the Nurses, Doctor or Senior Doctor with any medical cases.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
  • Ability to stand up for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in any type of weather conditions
  • Knowledgeable on how to handle specimens including but not limited to COVID 19.
  • Run test for Covid- 19 Testing, and other laboratory tests as needed.
  • High organizational skills
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures in the work area, including the use of protective equipment when necessary to prevent exposure to potentially infectious agents.
  • Setting up and preparing the mobile vaccine and testing operation
  • Participate in training/retraining and continuing education programs as necessary.
  • Oversee COVID-19 testing site Screening and swabbing patients.
  • Greeting and registering patients Verifying patient information, labeling, and processing specimens.
  • Maintaining infection control and HIPAA standards Collecting required paperwork or documentation Requirements.
  • Will test and process samples for Guests & Crew for various infectious diseases including COVID 19.
4.0 Education and Experience
  • Assistant Nursing degree or Medical degree (Phlebotomy, Lab technician, Medical Technician, etc.) or any foreign equivalent is needed.
  • Valid license from country or State/Province of origin is required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year post-graduate clinical experience is required.
  • Intermediate to Advanced verbal and written level of English is required.
