Description This Insights Manager role is responsible for supporting organizational understanding of the USP’s customers and business environment. They conduct primary market research projects (not limited to India market) and be responsible for all phases from planning and research instrument development to fielding, analysis and reporting. Projects are executed by partnering with outside vendors or conducting market research internally in partnership with USP’s Research Operations team. Topic areas include but are not limited to: new product/service development, product user behavior and attitudes, brand identity and tracking, market trends, and opportunities to increase understanding of our customers and business environment for the pharmaceutical, biologic, dietary supplement, and food ingredient industries. Roles and Responsibilities


  • Autonomously manages primary market research (qualitative and quantitative) to support strategic, tactical and operational initiatives as well as planning and implementation of new and potential USP products and programs

  • Designs, plans, and executes all phases of the research projects by conducting research using USP’s internal Research Operations team or managing market research vendors

  • Stewards projects: develops research plans to meet business needs, consults with internal business partners, establishes and manages schedules for projects, monitors progress, to ensure results will provide meaningful and actionable insights

  • Ensures work products are done in a quality and timely manner and within the budget for both local and global internal clients

  • Models the core USP competencies: Expertise, Initiative, Growth, and Collaboration.

  • Acquires and manages market research vendors to ensure quality work is provided on-time and on-budget

  • Conducts research on key markets to support the development of business and marketing plans

  • Identifies, researches, profiles, and monitors USP’s competitors and their product lines to provide context to decision making

  • Participates in the corporate planning and new product development processes to bring external perspectives and insight into the business planning for the organization

  • Collaborates with the global Insights team as well as relevant internal stakeholders on research projects

  • Performs other related duties as required
Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business, Social Science, Economics, Statistics, or a related discipline required. Master’s degree in business or related field is preferred. Market research degree or concentration is desired. Experience A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in conducting primary market research (e.g.: online surveys, in-depth interviews, focus groups), at a global scale. Attention to detail as well as ability to see a big picture. Experience with business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-client (B2C) primary market research is desired. Alternate combinations of education and experience may substitute. Project and vendor management experience required.

  • Experience with directly managing and conducting all phases of primary market research projects to include questionnaire/interview guide development, fielding, analysis, and reporting

  • Problem-solving with a variety of primary research techniques and methodologies, to include quantitative and qualitative experience. (Independently designing, implementing, and reporting in an actionable way)

  • Proven ability to manage market research vendors

  • Widespread knowledge of different interviewing and moderating techniques as well as quantitative market research methods.

  • Experience with online survey tools (Qualtrics preferred), bulletin boards, and/or focus group platforms. .

  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment, keeping project timelines.

  • Strong communication skills: verbal, written, and interpersonal. This includes the ability to present statistical information to non-statistically oriented audiences in a clear, engaging manner. Experience working with and presenting to global audiences is required.

  • Solid business writing skills – evidence of succinct, distilled reports, and attention to detail

  • Strong business acumen, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Must be client-service oriented, building constructive and effective relationships in a global organization

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively function within a global team, prioritize tasks with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity and cope with change
Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working within a global, geographically-dispersed team

  • Prior experience working for a business to business organization

  • Pharmaceuticals/ Healthcare industry experience

  • Statistical software packages – SPSS, etc.
