The Research & Knowledge Center of Excellence (R&K CoE) is a multi-faceted team consisting of professionals from legal and non-legal domains, supporting lawyers and business professionals from various sectors and jurisdictions across Clifford Chance. The CoE consists of the following broad workstreams:

  • Research Services: The team provides services in the areas of Business Research (be-spoke research on companies, industries, executives, and topics of interest), and News & Publications (newsletters and alerters); Specialised and dedicated research services to internal groups such as BD Financial Investors and Create R&D Hub.
  • Knowledge Services: The team provides backend and reporting support on various internal Knowledge tools of the firm such as Intranet, Bound Volumes, Wiki, etc.; Company Searches (registry and winding up searches for UK, HK, and Germany); Knowledge support to APAC Knowledge Expertise & Thought Leadership team
This role will primarily be responsible to manage, lead and enhance a part of the Research Services workstream, with a specific focus on leading and growing the following:
  • Business Research: The team provides research reports and services encompassing companies, industries, executives and topics of interest across the Firm. The reports can be in the form of Taxi Briefings (company profiles), Market and Industry overviews, Executive Biographies, Competitive Analysis, Bespoke Research Pieces, etc. Information is mainly sourced from external databases to which the Firm subscribes.
  • News & Publications: Preparation and distribution of regular customised newsletters and alerters, to multiple offices firm wide. Consisting of 2 qualified lawyers, the team also provides regulatory financial update alerters primarily for the APAC offices to a bespoke specification. The team is also the firm-wide SPOC for the Newsdesk database, assisting in resolving queries related to setting up and management of alerts on the database.
The role will be responsible for the operational, day-to-day management of these sub-teams, including workflow management, requests scoping, quality checks, managing escalations, etc. The candidate will also be responsible for continuously developing and improving processes and delivery and ensuring that all outputs are delivered in a timely manner, and as per the requirements of the requestors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor work allocation and day-to-day operations, ensuring timely completion of work
  • Manage the career growth of team members, supervise appraisals, coach, counsel and mentor; plan staffing based on work visibility; prepare business case and hire resources as per business requirements, identify and suggest training requirements for the team
  • Spearhead the planning and execution of workflow - understand client objectives, develop work plan, guide research effort, and ensure high-quality insightful deliverables, while effectively balancing resources and time
  • Plan, deliver and track y-o-y improvement in quality, innovation, customer satisfaction, productivity, and utilization; build capability to drive value by facilitating knowledge/ best practice sharing, training, and professional exposure; track/report metrics
  • Interface with senior executives; oversee client relationships, respond to and scope out high-value custom assignments, set expectations, estimate effort, send MoMs, and manage delivery
  • Proactively identify, interpret, and resolve conflicts arising within the team
  • Reporting: Prepare cyclic process specific reports
  • Maintain self and process absenteeism, sickness and holidays
  • Workforce Planning & Staffing: Ensure a minimum headcount is available for business continuity; Mitigate risk of failure by means of Cross Training and ensuring resources are multi-skilled
  • Support in Business Improvement Initiatives: Lead/ Support various business improvement initiatives in progress/planned. Become the agent of positive change to your team and an expertise in your line of work. Keep yourself updated on methods and technologies that can help make you and your team more efficient

A certain percentage of this role will be dedicated towards creating value added research content for senior stakeholders and end users to meet complex requirements by utilizing internal and external research sources, to collect, summarize, and synthesize relevant market and business data.

Skills Required

Experience
  • 9+ years of experience at a multinational, professional services organisation like a management consulting or third-party research firm, with 4+ years of team management responsibilities
  • Familiarity with the global business environment, and working knowledge of business intelligence tools and databases (e.g. Capital IQ, Mergermarket, Nexis, Orbis, Bloomberg) and other international / global research sources and content
Communicating/Organisational/Job-related skills
  • Excellent English language skills (oral and written), with a demonstrated capability of developing client facing documentation
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to understand business situations and provide data backed analysis
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects, meet deadlines and respond quickly to requests, which have a short turnaround time
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Attention to detail, with strong editing and proofing abilities
  • Project management, organisational and planning skills
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment on multiple tasks simultaneously and also as part of team but still be able to function independently
  • Strong senior stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to understand, analyse, interpret and report on operational performance data
  • Proven ability to communicate across cultures, and mould communication style as per the audience
  • Effectively communicates and discusses the strategy with management and onshore counterparts.
  • Ability to work under pressure and successfully manage deadlines
  • Self-motivated and able to prioritize and work independently
  • Ability to interact and effectively work with others in a team environment
