Global Finance has duplication of data, systems and processes in the production of our financial and regulatory reporting. The complexity of the legacy operating model creates challenges in:

  • efficiently maintaining referential data integrity across our reporting
  • limits our ability to deliver faster, more complex reporting, analytics and insight to our customers
  • optimising management of controls.
In order to address these legacy challenges and make finance fit for the future, Finance has mobilised the Finance on the Cloud (FotC) programme. The FotC Programme will invest primarily in Cloud technology to enable the transformation of Finance. Finance has already successfully pioneered the use of Cloud technology to support daily Liquidity reporting. The Finance Cloud Liquidity solution is business live in 46 countries. The FotC approach is to leverage and enhance the existing live Cloud solution components to further transform Finance.

Data Operations is a new team which is being formed in Finance Operations to cater to the requirements of the FoTC programme. This team will be responsible for delivering, on a daily and monthly basis, a fully adjusted and reconciled data set at a legal entity level which can be used for all downstream reporting activities.

The Data Operations team is expected to have 3 main pillars:
  • a. Data Management
  • b. Rules Management
  • c. Reference Data Management
The Opportunity:

Impact on the Business / Function
  • The roleholder is responsible for the execution of all rules which have been built in the FoTC data layer. This includes rules for adjustments, reconciliations, fallbacks etc. for the operating entities of the Group
  • This includes developing detailed understanding of the process/data rules, timely delivery per defined delivery plan and process change management ability to cater to new reporting requirements, new adjustments which have been identified by Reporting teams, demise of rules pursuant to improvement of input data or change in reporting requirements
  • Works jointly with relevant Reporting, C&I and the legal entity teams to ensure that the new adjustments / reporting requirements are well understood and translated into change requests
  • Ensures that supporting documentation is maintained and updated during the course of the process and are developed per defined standards
  • Works closely with Finance Change Delivery point of contacts to plan and implement changes to data rules
  • Delivery of data to the Reporting teams conforming to adequate standards in a timely manner
  • Effective support of the Reporting & C&I in the understanding/analysis and commentary of monthly, weekly and daily data
Customers/Stakeholders
  • Collaborates proactively with upstream & downstream process point of contacts with respect to Run Book delivery
  • Works closely with the Finance Change Delivery team to support ongoing change projects as required
  • Key role to ensure data quality to downstream processes and data governance with upstream point of contacts per defined SLAs
  • Successful delivery of adjustments, reconciliations, fallbacks to the Data Ops teams and acknowledgement of ownership and responsibility for the quality of the rules implemented and maintained
  • Customer satisfaction of the Data Ops, Reporting, C&I and the legal entity teams
  • Successful delivery of change projects/initiatives through partnership with Finance COO team, evidenced by progression through the BTF (Business Transformation Framework) for projects

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do:

Major challenges (The challenges inherent in the role that require a continual test of the role holder\xe2\x80\x99s abilities)
  • HSBC is a Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB) and as such faces significant scrutiny from its regulators
  • Continued regulatory change in all jurisdictions, will continue indefinitely and the role holder carries a high degree of responsibility associated with the assessment of and preparation of data for the Group\xe2\x80\x99s reporting demands
  • A uniform dataset which will support all downstream reporting activities, both external & reporting, requires the role holder to be agile at all times to ensure that all regulatory and internal requirements are catered to adequately
  • As new reporting capabilities and new legal entities are on-boarded onto FoTC the role holder has to ensure that the data ops team is able to drive standardization in the final data set and at the same time be responsive to specific reporting requirements
Role context (The environment and operating conditions of the role including the extent of guidance and authority)
  • Role is based in Global Finance and the jobholder will interface with other areas of Finance process leads/ point of contacts
  • The jobholder will be accountable for ensuring that the dataset from Data Ops enables HSBC Group and its subsidiaries meet their internal and regulatory reporting commitments in a timely and accurate way
  • Excellent collaborative skills, technical knowledge and a proven ability to embrace diverse cultures will be necessary to be successful in this role
Management of risk (Operational Risk / FIM requirements)
  • The role is strongly linked to the management of risk as the single set of data will be used for all financial reporting purposes, including statutory and regulatory reporting and multiple SOX processes
  • The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings and the impact of new technology. This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring and by addressing any areas of concern with line management and/or the appropriate department

Observation of internal controls (Compliance Policy / FIM requirements)
  • The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.
  • The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term \xe2\x80\x98compliance\xe2\x80\x99 embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
  • This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, and fostering a compliance culture.
  • By adhering to the bank\xe2\x80\x99s agreed processes/procedures \xe2\x80\x93 achieving a satisfactory Audit report.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:
  • Experienced financial services professional, likely qualified e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA or other (e.g. CFA)
  • Exposure of reporting delivery, and multiple regulatory jurisdictions
  • Knowledge of a range of businesses and operational processes across the breadth of financial services environment
  • Skilled in handling and controlling Finance data
  • Strong ability to anticipate, identify and mitigate risks and apply appropriate controls over regulatory production processes
  • Proactively looks for methods to simplify processes
  • Good problem solver with well-developed analytical skills
  • Experience of delivering to multiple internal and external stakeholders such as external auditors, regulators, audit committees, businesses, etc. and ability to successfully navigate a matrix structure
  • Experience of operating in a diverse international financial services group with a matrix structure encompassing business, functional and geographical dimensions
  • Ability to manage multiple and, at times, conflicting objectives, prioritising effectively
  • Commercially minded and ability to both make decisions in a timely manner and to delegate to others
  • Proven ability to influence at senior levels across functions, geographies and businesses
