The Mill's flagship studio, Mill London, opened its doors in 1990. Located in London's Fitzrovia, the studio is home to over 300 creators working across Mill VFX, Mill Direction and Mill Experience projects. The Mill's London home overlooks the iconic BT tower, and is surrounded by some of the best eateries in town. The London creative community often gathers on The Mill's rooftop bar and terrace, which plays host to a number of industry and staff events.


  • Help coordinate and chair a monthly meeting involving all Lead Artists and Supervisors to discuss any project-based or technical issues
  • Be involved with a monthly global conference call with other Heads of CG
  • Work closely with other HoD's to ensure CG stays relevant with other departments, identifying potential efficiencies across disciplines
  • Regularly assess The Mill's representation at Key conferences and Universities ensuring the brand is well-positioned
  • Recognize The Mill's brand and position in the industry, referring to Mill's manifesto
  • Attend Senior Management meetings and give updates on the status of the department
  • Engage with recruitment and work closely with the Operations and the Talent team to attract the highest quality artists in the industry to fill any potential gaps in the department's structure
Management:
  • Manage all CG artists' career progress by supporting their creative, technical and personal development
  • Advise upon specific ways in which staff members could improve based on outcomes from their annual review
  • Highlight potential talent gaps within the department
  • Engage in salary reviews of all artists to ensure that everyone is suitably paid and reward artists on consistent high performance
  • Assist the Talent Team with the evaluation and interview process of potential new hires
Technical:
  • Work closely with the Discipline Supervisors and Head of Technology Director to investigate and plan future hardware and software purchases for the CG Department, including investing in new technology and pipeline development
  • Continually review processes, systems and pipeline and direct the implementation of new methodologies where required, making sure no we are not developing anything new that exists at another Mill site
  • Work with other HOD's to continually explore new technology options and consult with the Head of Technology about the feasibility for testing and implementation
Reporting:
  • Manages the 3D/CG team
  • HOD reports to Head of Creative
  • HOD works with CG Operations Manager, Senior members of CG Team
  • Key liaison with: Other HOD's, Executive Producers, Producers, CG Scheduling, Head of Technology, R&D, Creative Technology, Talent team
Careful assessment, management and implementation of team structure are vital. The Head of CG is expected to routinely offer guidance, mentoring and training to CG staff to ensure continued career progression.

Qualifications

The role of Head of CG is a senior position, requiring strong inspirational leadership and communication skills. We are looking for a hands-on approach with someone who leads by example. The CG department is pivotal to our success and is often called upon as a solution to other departments' technological issues. The primary focus of the role is developing and promoting the best experience for CG talent and overseeing the day-to-day management of the department.
