The Role


JOB TITLE: Global Workflow Consultant APC Where you fit The Workflow Consultant in the Process control team is accountable for technology stewardship and advanced technical support in the process control Area. This area covers the business processes and technology around Platform for Advanced Control and Estimation (and its legacy Shell Multivariate Optimizing Controller) and associated technologies such as MDPro, COAST, CASC etc. What?s the role? The technology consultant specifies the functional requirements and validates that the functionality provided by the resulting application meets business requirements and delivers value utilizing both Shell-built and 3rd party vendor technology solutions. Your key accountabilities include:
  • Deliver pro-active, day-to-day workflow support for Process Control Technologies.
  • Understand asset needs, work together with multiple stakeholders within P&T and Assets to identify opportunities that add business value and deliver high quality integrated solutions.
  • Identify and support new business opportunities for Process Control technologies in renewable energy sector.
  • Develop and deliver technology presentations, Perform demonstration of our technologies to potential end users.
  • Coordinate and develop product requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders (operators, engineers, scientific researchers, process owners, business users, portfolio managers, 3rd party vendors, IT specialists) to build and maintain the software technologies in the portfolio. This includes Shell developed software and configuration and any customization of 3rd party software.
  • Provide technical ownership and consultation on technology choice and key IT capabilities to deliver reliable, cost effective and sustainable solutions in the process control space. Assist in adoption of technology solutions in all lines of businesses with enterprise first mindset.
  • Provide technical support, end-user consultation, troubleshooting and training as required to maximize value of the deployed technical solutions.
  • Workflow consultant is expected to work closely with IT staff (as well as other domain experts and R&D staff) to ensure production of high-quality APC software.
What we need from you
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical/Instrumentation/Mechanical engineering or related field with minimum 5+ years of experience in designing and implementing process control solutions in the Oil & Gas industry in one or more lines of business.
  • Demonstrated business and domain skills with significant experience leading diverse technical delivery teams.
  • Proven technical services background with concrete examples around assisting operating assets in terms of design, troubleshooting, commissioning, and end user training.
  • Knowledge of the existing Shell-built applications such as PACE, MDPro etc. preferred.
  • Ability to gather and prioritize business requirements and capability across a variety of Assets along with strong analytical, relationship management and technical communication skills to translate these requirements to IT developers such that they may build or modify a product with minimal rework.
  • Knowledge of industry standards in data standards, data management, project management, agile processes, IT product road mapping is a plus.

  • Track record of collaborative delivery including business users, domain experts, external technology and service providers, and IT teams to maximize organization value.
  • Demonstrated capability to set priorities, trouble-shoot issues, and create alternate methods for accomplishing objectives.
  • Strong change management capabilities to develop and implement shared vision, working effectively with all levels and across organizations.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to operate in a diverse, virtual and global environment.
