The Role


FO plays a vital role in enabling the delivery of Finance Functional excellence to Shell plc. In the delivery of its core processes FO ensures: a) the quality of the data & data model for key aspects of Finance; b) the design, implementation and measurement of a number of those core processes; c) the design and delivery of a fit for purposes control framework and provides business insights through advanced data and process analytics.

The Functions across Shell plc. are essential support arms to the main businesses and provide an integrated value across the Group.

The Finance Advisor sits within R&A Functions and supports the Functions PAR Lead drive Functions Performance management and Financial decision support for 1 or more assigned portfolios.

The successful candidate will be required to work with various stakeholders including Functions Finance PAR teams, Functions FMs and Business Finance PAR teams. The Finance Advisor will support the PAR Lead will provide Financial Leadership and decision support to the Functions FMs and plays a critical leadership role in the Annual Planning / LE process including identification of ESSA opportunities.

The role provides huge scope for acquiring scalable and transferable finance, business and Project management skills. The incumbent is expected to work in a complex and sometimes dynamic business environment dealing with multiple interfaces which will involve strong analytical skills, the drive to make process improvements, collaboration and stakeholder management.

  • Support accurate and on time Functions cost reporting and appraisals

  • Facilitate annual plan and LE exercises, including critical assessment and challenge, within agreed timelines.

  • Support delivery of ad hoc Functions performance management requirements as required by PAR Lead for senior stakeholders up to EC members

  • Understanding the key issues and challenges facing each of the individual Functions to coordinate value add plans and performance management with a capacity to leverage technology to build insights

  • Combine deep Functional knowledge, understanding of Functions system set up, planning, reporting and recovery/allocation processes to drive simplification and automation of PAR activities

  • Continue change agenda to streamline, standardize processes and champion a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Work closely with PAR Lead to support forecasting, modelling of significant changes in business and adhoc analysis as needed from a value and risk perspective.

This position requires an individual who excels at global (virtual) working and leadership. The incumbent is expected to be a valuable Business partner to senior stakeholders and their teams.

The role may involve engaging with a high number of stakeholders who are based across the organization and the globe.

The role requires a very structured approach, thinking ahead in terms of upcoming deadlines and challenges, and resulting needs for engagements and preparations. We are looking for an original thinker who can think strategically, mastering the detail, making the complex simple and the flair to drive process improvements. This role is in General Shift but would need flexibility to cover different time zones.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Finance professional with 8+ years’ experience in virtual-working environment in multiple locations with strong business acumen.

  • Strong Business partnering, interpersonal, influencing and effective communication skills to engage both Finance and Non-Finance communities on Financial matters.

  • Ability to effectively function in a matrix organization.

  • Strong stakeholder management - The ability to achieve results through influencing and motivating others (inside and outside finance) and to communicate effectively with all levels throughout the organization.

  • Demonstrate strong evidence of the 5 behavioral imperatives as well as strong leadership attributes (particularly collaboration and performance), organization and facilitation skills.

  • Pro-actively identify process improvements and manage and drive change.

  • Good team player and good networking abilities

  • Knowledge of SAP ERP systems and reporting tools like Power BI would be an added advantage.
