Job Description


Summary

As a member of Legal team, you will be supporting the legal and commercial activities of GE\xe2\x80\x99s Steam Power business; interfacing with legal, compliance and secretarial professionals and contract managers in GE Steam Power and the broader GE.

Your Role:
  • Assisting in managing disputes (litigation & arbitration) in Steam Power business in India, including supervising outside counsel, maintaining trackers and records for litigation matters as needed;
  • Attending court hearings, reviewing of pleadings, assisting the legal counsel, attending briefing conferences.
  • Working with business stakeholders to draft, review and finalize, a wide range of commercial contracts, especially with vendors of the Steam Power Business in India;
  • Assisting in dealing with commercial claims from vendors/customers, advising on legal issues arising from such claims and putting into action the next steps;
  • Provide legal advisory to internal teams on varied day to day issues;
  • Assisting bid management teams in managing legal documentation for bids etc.;
  • Work with the manager on legal practice standards initiative, on planning and executing department processes and budgets, improvements and training.
  • Assisting stakeholders in GE Steam business in India on project compliance related issues, from time to time, including management of labour related issues.
  • Additional responsibilities may include management of administrative tools for legal costs & budget in the region.
  • Assist the reporting manager to structure, draft, negotiate and advise on a wide range of legal matters in India, from standard commercial contracts to advising on ongoing project related commercial and compliance issues.
Basic Qualifications(requirements):
  • Degree in Law, qualified to practice in India
  • 2 to 3 years of experience with a law firm and/or corporate legal department of a reputed business organization.
  • Litigation experience is a must.
  • Experience in dispute resolution (litigation and/or arbitration) for commercial contracts, with experience and ability to assess underlying commercial claims on merits.
Desired Qualifications: Experience & strong skills in drafting and reviewing commercial contracts is important, previous exposure to the power sector would be desirable. Experience in dealing with labour compliances would be an added advantage.
