Finance Section

The Finance Section is led by the Chief Financial Officer, who reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer, Corporate Branch. The priorities of the section actively support the areas of focus in the Corporate Branch plan to deliver:
  • Improved service delivery,
  • Enhance agency capability through improved internal client experience, and
  • Championing good administrative practice.
The section partners with the business to manage internal and external budgetary requirements, deliver flexible, agile and relevant financial information and advice to stakeholders, and provides products and services including budget management, external budgeting, financial statements, external reporting, monthly reporting, accounts processing, treasury and procurement advice.

What you'll do

The Clean Energy Regulator is seeking a highly experienced finance professional to undertake the duties of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for a period of up to 12 months. Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, the CFO proactively operates in a complex and changing work environment, ensuring a high level of integration across the agency, including the agency's direction and role within government. The CFO role requires comprehensive knowledge of financial practices in government, including financial accounting, management accounting and statutory financial reporting. The ability to gain a sound understanding of the agency's operating environment is essential in order to identify investment opportunities and assist with process streamlining The CFO is responsible for providing advice to the agency on a range of strategic investments and business needs as well as legislative and regulatory compliance. The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate a track record of delivering quality services within a framework of responsible financial and resource management. By working collaboratively across the Corporate Branch with a high level of engagement and participation, the CFO will:
  • Partner with the agency executive to ensure operational excellence and a cohesive approach to continuing change, improvement and delivery
  • Plan and deliver streamlined corporate functions through active engagement across the agency
  • Exercise influence, set strategic direction, and develop and implement operational processes aimed at ensuring the agency is supported and can achieve its business objectives
  • Interpret, analyse and present financial related information to facilitate understanding and ensure alignment with business needs and strategic investments
  • Ensure that public funds and resources are used efficiently in accordance with statutory and legislative requirements
  • Provide high level advice on financial matters and strategic initiatives
  • Manage and promote internal control frameworks, and
  • Demonstrate achievements in innovative process improvement, organisational development, and risk management.
The CFO will lead the strategic direction of the Finance Section, including management accounting, financial accounting, financial operations and procurement. Applications will close 11:30pm, 7 October 2022
