A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CARPENTER
As a Carpenter, you are deployed to a remote research station in Greenland, where you conduct skilled carpentry work on a variety of structures. Working in a harsh, unpredictable, and underdeveloped environment, you perform everything from rough framing to finish carpentry using power saws, drills, routers, and a variety of other materials and tools. Interpreting and following blueprints to ensure you are meeting exact specifications, you assemble structural steel, floors, walls, drywall, hardware, and roof framing for new and existing construction. You also fabricate specialized cabinets, crates, scientific components, and furniture. In addition to building and performing repairs, you manage your inventory of tools and materials, ordering new equipment and supplies or coordinating exchanges with other departments as necessary. You also oversee the work of a trades helper, and you assist with general camp operations to help maintain a safe, clean work environment. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CARPENTER

  • 4+ years of experience in most phases of carpentry, including rough framing (both wood and steel framing) and finish carpentry
  • Ability to read design drawings and build to precise specifications
  • Ability to travel to and reside in Greenland for an extended period of time
  • Ability to work in harsh, unpredictable outdoor conditions and extremely cold temperatures
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver\'s license
Experience with metal stud framing, drywall hanging, drywall finishing, and commercial or industrial facility construction is preferred. First aid training and experience in remote, cold, or polar environments would be a plus. Accredited OSHA training course completion is preferred as well. WORK SCHEDULE
This construction position is a seasonal role that requires deployment to Summit Station, Greenland. Deployments vary in length and usually occur between April and September. During your deployment, you will typically work a 54-hour week that includes 6 9-hour shifts per week. The typical schedule may shift based on conditions and work requirements. It may include 12-hour days, early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
