A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A CARPENTER As a Carpenter, you are deployed to a remote research station in Greenland, where you conduct skilled carpentry work on a variety of structures. Working in a harsh, unpredictable, and underdeveloped environment, you perform everything from rough framing to finish carpentry using power saws, drills, routers, and a variety of other materials and tools. Interpreting and following blueprints to ensure you are meeting exact specifications, you assemble structural steel, floors, walls, drywall, hardware, and roof framing for new and existing construction. You also fabricate specialized cabinets, crates, scientific components, and furniture. In addition to building and performing repairs, you manage your inventory of tools and materials, ordering new equipment and supplies or coordinating exchanges with other departments as necessary. You also oversee the work of a trades helper, and you assist with general camp operations to help maintain a safe, clean work environment.
