We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Manager, Business Banking

Role Context:

The basic function of the Business Banking HK team is to undertake the credit deaccessioning work for business / commercial customers originating from various Branches / Commercial Centers across the HK Business Banking & Commercial Banking (CMB) segment. The comprehensive credit proposals encompassing all industry sectors are initially scored and then system referrals are submitted for appraisal & approval to the BB HK Team. The team members in BB HK are assigned individual lending authority by the Bank to underwrite credit applications which is currently up to HKD 10 Million.

  • To make their judgmental assessment, underwriters are required to:
  • Use information available via other on-screen enquiries that is not included within the credit scoring process
  • Use other supplementary information that branches may submit
  • Clearly communicate (in writing) the reasons for their decision so that the branch can in turn explain this to the applicant.
Principal responsibilities:
  • To contribute to the credit approval process
  • To continually re-assess the operational risk inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring, and the impact of new technology
  • Contribute to the achievement of the Regional Business Banking / Middle Market operating plan in respect of revenue, impairment charges, risk measures and RWA impacts
  • By addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department
  • Embed a robust Risk Governance Framework and ensure Risk Appetite is embedded within Decision Making
  • By adhering to the banks agreed processes/procedures.
  • By achieving a satisfactory Audit report.
  • Ensuring credit risks are minimized, leading to a long term quality loan portfolio and thereby earning a satisfactory return.
  • Must be capable of giving a decision in a short timeframe. Must not expose the HSBC Group to unnecessary risk.
  • Must be able to work independently in a somewhat unstructured environment, but be capable of providing positive leadership, support and guidance
Requirements

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications:
  • Qualified Chartered Accountants / MBAs. 1-2 years' experience in Corporate / SME Credit or Relationship Management in a reputed Bank/ FI is preferred.
  • Demonstrate commercial credit skills, not only on a transaction basis but also credit process management.
  • In-depth understanding of credit products viz. - Short Term loans, working capital financing, knowledge of the HSBC Group, particularly banking operations and products. etc.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to quickly interpret data & facts to arrive at meaningful conclusions and assess the business / financial prospects of the borrowers
