Western Music Teacher
Job Description
Pathways School Gurgaon is looking for an excellent practitioner who can teach MYP Music Teacher with a specialism in Western Voice and/or Orchestral Strings such as the Violin, Viola or Cello. Candidates with a knowledge of DP Music are encouraged to apply. The candidate should be competent to teach his/her chosen instrument in a variety of genres such as Jazz, Pop 'n' Rock, Classical & Opera. Candidates should have a Western First Degree in Music (Diplomas such as an LTCL, ALCM, LRAM, ARCM), would be the minimum acceptable). Grade 8 candidates with a distinction can apply, but the original certificate will need to be seen on the interview. Prospective candidates should ideally have experience of teaching general classroom music, and individual lessons in their chosen specialism. They should also have experience in teaching students taking grade examinations with ABRSM, AMEB and or the ABRSM. A demo lesson will be set up for the candidate on the day of a 30 - minute duration, where the candidate will be expected to teach a lesson on one of the following:
- The Elements of Music
- The structure, history and harmony of Beethoven's Fur Elise or Beethoven's Symphony No. 5
- The Instruments of the Symphony Orchestra from the Baroque to the current day
- Introduction to Jazz and its most famous musicians
Ideally potential teachers will have IB experience with teaching the MYP & DP Music Curriculum and as such would be given preference. During the interview candidates will be expected to perform a piece of their chosen instrument of a minimum of Grade 8 level, and be subject to a Viva Voce covering:
- Theory & History of Music
- Aural including the recognition of scales, chords and an aural dictation of four bars
- General Music Knowledge
