Job Description

A welder performs various duties, including reading blueprints, preparing metal materials, and expertly joining or repairing metal parts using different welding techniques like MIG, TIG, or arc welding. Key responsibilities involve operating welding equipment, ensuring work quality and safety through inspections and following protocols, and collaborating with teams to complete projects according to specifications.
Core Responsibilities
Interpret technical documents:
Read and understand engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand project requirements.
Material preparation:
Cut, grind, and clean metal surfaces to prepare them for welding.
Welding operations:
Perform various welding processes (MIG, TIG, arc) to join metal and other materials, often in multiple positions (flat, vertical, overhead).
Fabrication and repair:
Assemble and join metal components to create structures, or repair existing metal products and equipment.
Quality control:
Inspect and test welds to ensure they meet quality standards and project specifications.
Equipment operation:
Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment, hand tools, and sometimes heavy machinery.
Safety adherence:
Follow all safety protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe work environment.
Collaboration:
Work with team members, supervisors, and other workers (like fitters and fabricators) to ensure projects are completed on time and according to specifications.
