Job Description








PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Web administrators manage and maintain websites, considering functionality, appearance, content, and performance. Their primary focus is on the technical aspects of web maintenance, such as building servers and troubleshooting, performance measuring, management, and troubleshooting. This role also updates the more visible parts of the website, tweaking the design or adding new sections and content in consultation with the content owners

KEY ACCOUNTABILITY
The key tasks and responsibilities of this role are as follows:
Manage Website Infrastructure
Operationalize website, set up a web host, configure access for users, establish news and mail servers, and seamlessly connect databases and other back-end components. Responsible for familiarizing users and stakeholders with the website and making sure it functions smoothly.
Monitor Performance
Constantly evaluate website performance by checking metrics such as loading time and memory consumption. Going beyond the technical aspects, they also assess user feedback, effectiveness, and traffic, even exploring marketing techniques such as newsletters and SEO to draw more users into the website.
Provide Technical Support
24x7 support for websites. Proactively addressing user concerns and resolving bugs. Execute upgrades and improvements along with integrations
Create and Update Web Pages
Work directly with code and often update webpages to add content or tweak the layout. For large-scale changes such as expanding the website, creating new web pages based on wireframes along with their design
Evaluate Structure and Content
Contribute to the development of a websites structure. Set basic standards for both graphics and content, checking for quality before uploading components.
Own SEO tasks

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS (INTERNAL/EXTERNAL)
Academia and support groups Internal Customer, working with the faculty, deans, students, administration, operations control, and marketing teams to develop ideas concepts, and solutions that help the organization to meet its objectives
Technology Partners Work closely with all the partners and OEMs to ensure they deliver outcomes in line with the IT organization strategy and commitments to stakeholders
Technology Team (internal and group) Working very closely with other IT team members to deliver the outcomes and responsibilities of the role


Skills and Qualifications
Web admin must have strong technical expertise and problem-solving skills, with a working knowledge of both web development and system administration. A drive for constant learning is helpful, since this role deals with various facets of the web, from infrastructure to content.
Key Skills:

  • Web development web admins must be proficient in web programming languages in order to update or create web pages. At a minimum, they should be able to convert designs into code through front-end development
  • Infrastructure expertise since the job revolves around maintaining websites, successful web admins are knowledgeable about security, hosting, network optimization, databases, and other infrastructure-related factors that affect a websites performance
  • Testing web admins test and debug website features, with the goal of making them error-free. Beyond programming tests, they also assess the website\xe2\x80\x99s usability, design, content, and popularity
  • Dependability \xe2\x80\x93 because even a small problem can be detrimental to a website, web admins react quickly to bugs and performance lags. They even guard against future risks by preparing backups and disaster recovery plans
  • Customer support \xe2\x80\x93 when customers report issues, web admins should be proactive, working to fix the problem while communicating updates. It\xe2\x80\x99s important that they can explain technical concepts in everyday language

Qualifications and experience
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Computer Science or a related field
10 - 15 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in IT
Minimum three years of experience as a Windows or Linux Systems Administrator
Planning and tuning web applications
Expertise with Wintel, Linux, Apache, PHP, Oracle, and SQL
Load balancing
Reverse proxy configurations
Knowledge of security for applications, networking, and operating systems
Web programming languages (such as Javascript, Ruby, PHP, NodeJS)
Content management systems (such as WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla)
Web analytic tools (such as Google Analytics, SEMRush, Open Web Analytics, etc..)
Web hosting services (such as HostGator, SiteGround, Bluehost, etc..)
Deployment using automation knowledge
Monitoring and virtualization experience
Data center deployment expertise
Ethernet networking
Oracle, PostgreSQL, and related SQL systems

Design/ UI/UX Skills (desirable)
Adobe CS Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, etc.)
Knowledge of HTML5 required.
HTML/ DHTML, CSS, and script coding is a plus
