A restaurant waiter/waitress's job description includes providing excellent customer service, from greeting guests and taking orders to serving food and beverages and handling payments. Customer interaction:

Greet guests, show them to their tables, and present menus. Answer questions about menu items and specials, and make recommendations to upsell items.

Order taking and processing:

Take food and beverage orders accurately and communicate them to the kitchen staff, often using a point-of-sale (POS) system.

Service and delivery:

Promptly and correctly deliver food and drinks to guests' tables. Check on customers to ensure they have everything they need.

Table maintenance:

Set tables, clear dirty dishes, and clean tables after guests leave to ensure a tidy dining area.

Payment handling:

Prepare and present bills to customers and accurately process payments and make change.

Additional duties
