Introduction:

The successful candidate will become a member of the Barclays Technical Accounting Group, reporting to a team leader (Director). The candidate will provide technical accounting guidance applicable to Barclays Group IFRS reporting. The role will support Finance and Business functions in understanding the accounting applicable to their activities, products, and transactions and support relevant areas in assessment of accounting judgemental matters.

What will you be doing?

Technical accounting colleagues work closely with others with specialist knowledge and are responsible for providing advice, guidance and support in the following areas:a,
aAEURAa, a, a, Oversight of technical accounting compliance for BarclaysaAEURA(TM) financial reporting for both Group and stand-alone legal entities. Requires strong understanding of financial reporting, accounting and disclosure requirements.a,
aAEURAa, a, a, Accounting issues management and resolution working across different businesses/areas of the bank and engaging multiple stakeholders. a, Requires networking and influencing skills to develop sustainable relationships as well as clear communication and presentation capabilities to contribute effectively in meetings.a,
aAEURAa, a, a, Review and approval of new products and complex transactions including contributing to transaction development. Requires obtaining a full understanding of the business rationale and transaction economics to identify the appropriate accounting requirements for each component of the transaction.a,
aAEURAa, a, a, Implementation of new accounting standards and review and remediation as required for application of existing requirements. Effective collaboration with colleagues in other functions is required to ensure that the new technical requirements are capable of being translated and implemented within BarclaysaAEURA(TM) systems and processes.a,
aAEURAa, a, a, Update, maintain and develop Barclays internal accounting policies. Requires sound communication (written) skills, ability to interpret complex accounting standards and make it applicable to Barclays.
aAEURAa, a, a, Support for the design and delivery of technical accounting training materials to Finance colleagues, other support functions and front office. TAG materials reflect the current accounting requirements in a way that is accessible and relevant to recipients, using examples in the appropriate context. Participation in industry forums to understand industry practice on interpretive or judgmental accounting policies.a,
The exact nature and degree of involvement in each of the above activities will depend on the candidateaAEURA(TM)s experience. The candidate will be part of a global team working collaboratively with other members of Global TAG.

What weaAEURA(TM)re looking for:

aAEURAa, a, a, International chartered accountant with at least five years of post-graduate experience.a,
aAEURAa, a, a, Relevant years of experience in accounting firm audit, advisory, or national office practice covering the financial services industry and/or working in accounting policy in the financial services industry. a,
aAEURAa, a, a, Strong communication skills (verbal and written) which is necessary to ensure that technical requirements are understood by clients and other stakeholders.
aAEURAa, a, a, Reasoning skills and capability for self-directed research and work, which is required in order to resolve technical accounting matters.a,

Skills that will help you in the role:

aAEURAa, a, a, Knowledge of relevant technical accounting concepts including accounting for financial instruments (debt/equity, derivatives and hedging, derecognition, impairment, loan accounting and netting, among others), consolidation and revenue recognition under IFRS
aAEURAa, a, a, Experience applying accounting concepts to complex transactions and initiativesa,
aAEURAa, a, a, Deep understanding of banking products and businesses.
aAEURAa, a, a, Advocacy experience e.g. representing a bank or similar in industry forum or responding to an accounting standard change.
