The Role Responsibilities

Job Role

This role is integral to drive the ESG and Reputational Risk agenda and embed the associated Risk framework within key business processes and across markets.

The Senior Manager, ESG and Reputational Risk will

In accordance with the Enterprise Risk Management framework, embed the policy framework of ESG and Reputational risk in fulfilling the requirements of second line oversight and challenge to key stakeholders across the Group.

  • Lead consultation, documentation, and impact assessment of areas of regulations relating to ESG and Reputational risks in countries.
  • Support the ongoing attestation to regulatory authorities to confirm compliance to relevant regulations.
  • Provide inputs to ESG and Reputational Risk Framework Owner (\xe2\x80\x9cGroup RFO\xe2\x80\x9d) in the review of control environment for weaknesses.
Regulatory Liaison and Change
  • Exert oversight on appropriateness of Horizon Scanning for ESG-relevant publications and obligations.
Consultations
  • Evaluate consultations from regulators and relevant industry associations and compile (Country-specific) response for critical consultations in alignment with Business and other Bank Functions.
  • Disseminate draft response to appropriate 1LOD / 2LOD stakeholders for awareness and request for feedback.
  • Engage (jointly with 1 LoD / 2 LoD Group and Country stakeholders) regulators and industry associations on select consultations, where necessary.
Obligations (Drafts, Final rules)
  • Identify binding regulations and industry standards, determine materiality, and escalate extra-territorial regulations and industry standards.
  • Interpret obligations, derive key requirements, and assess their impact on Bank Policies / Standards, including those from quasi regulators / industry bodies.
  • Maintain ESG risk Obligation Register and share identified key requirements with affected Country Business and Function stakeholders and notify Group RFO on extra-territoriality.
  • Oversee and review Business / Function Impact Assessment performed by 1 LoD (i.e. required changes to products, processes / controls, systems, capacities and capabilities).
  • Provide guidance to the update of Policies / Standards / Country Addenda relating to the obligations ensuring sign-off by relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide advisory support to 1LOD on regulatory interpretation queries during implementation design phase including the validation and sign off on required artefacts / deliverables (i.e. implementation plan, traceability matrix, etc) to ensure that all requirements of the obligations have been met.
Validate, Review and independently Assure
  • Oversee and guide assurance processes in countries relating to regulatory Requests For Information and other regulatory attestations.
Strategy
  • Support the integration of the Sustainability Risk management across Clients, Third Parties and Operations, in alignment with our Bold Stands and Chapter 3 ambitions.
  • Support the delivery of a strategic approach for ESG and Reputational Risk management such as alignment of our portfolio to various external commitments such as Net Zero
Business
  • Drives efforts with Businesses, Supply Chain Management and various Functions to embed ESG and Reputational Risk considerations into first-line processes.
  • Embed enhanced due diligence criteria across various ESG and Sustainability Risk criteria into first-line processes and ensure first-line are kept up-to-date with evolving risk and regulatory landscape.
  • Where required, contribute to enhanced training and guidance materials for the frontline and Second-line risk owners.
Processes
  • Provide inputs to ensure maintenance of formalised procedures and DOIs for ESG and Reputational Risk processes and reporting.
  • Where required, support the operational risk requirements of risk areas aligned with ESG and Reputational Risk.
People and Talent
  • Help to build the appropriate culture and values. Work collaboratively with all relevant partners.
Risk Management
  • Uphold the integrity of risk / return decisions, by challenging business to demonstrate that risk origination and control decisions are properly informed and consistent with the ESG and reputational risk strategy and risk appetite.
  • Act quickly and decisively when any risk and control weakness becomes apparent and ensure they are addressed within an appropriate timeframe and escalated through the relevant committees.
  • Where required, act as the second-line for risk areas aligned to the ESG and Reputational Policy. Review and challenge Standard generation and updates and review control environment for weakness.
Governance
  • Provide support across ESG and Reputational Risk, ensuring compliance with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and compliance practices as defined by internal and external requirements.
  • Embed the Group\xe2\x80\x99s values and code of conduct in ESG and Reputational Risk.
  • Ensure that material risk exposures and related issues are reported to the responsible risk governance committees.
Regulatory and Business Conduct
  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group\xe2\x80\x99s Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.   • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • Over 12 - 16 years of experience working in a major international banking organisation.
  • Good knowledge of reputational risk management, or other risk-type management for financial services.
  • Experience in a discipline relating to Environmental, Social or Governance risk.
  • Experience in managing regulatory change or compliance, and regulatory interpretation.
  • Good knowledge of Sustainable Finance.
  • Knowledge of financial and non-financial risks and trends.
  • Strong creativity and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills; comfortable in building relationships at senior levels and across teams, with outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Confident self-motivated person with a high level of drive and ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
