Role Summary/Purpose:

We are looking for an Information Architect to create, optimize, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for the enterprise data lake and data warehouses on premises and in the cloud at Synchrony (SYF). This role will serve as a vital bridge from the business applications to technology architecture (TOGAF Architecture Development Method). The information architect will work closely with technology and functional teams to recommend data structures based on the provisioning and consumption needs within each domain. The successful candidate will need to develop intimate knowledge of SYF key data domains (originations, loan activity, collection, etc.) and maintain a holistic view across SYF functions to minimize redundancies and optimize the analytics environment.

This position is remote, where you have the option to work from home. On occasion we may request for you to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. Essential Responsibilities:

• Define conceptual, logical, and physical data model structures to store, integrate, govern, maintain, and consume data in a secure and efficient manner while preserving accuracy of data across SYF analytics assets.
• Manage and mentor architects to ensure optimal workloads and performance.
• Responsible for the enterprise data model repository and compliance measured through KPIs.
• Assist in strategy to migrate existing data models and their transformational logic from legacy assets to modern cloud data platforms to support analytics, reporting, machine learning and AI applications.
• Identify opportunities to minimize data copies and movement (e.g., reuse existing data structures).
• Identify impact on existing model/solution triggered by any new/changed requirements to maintain integrity of the models.
• Review and approve source to target mapping for teams across the agile trains.
• Support the data architecture process, risks, and controls to improve the process and minimize risk.
• Create and maintain data architecture policies, standards, and procedures and promote adherence across the organization to drive compliant and impactful solutions.
• Support CDO governance activities including cataloging, lineage tracking, data issues, data quality, etc.
• Provide insight into the changing database storage and utilization requirements for the company and offer suggestions for solutions.
• Partner with business stakeholders, architects, and technology teams to deliver optimal data models.
• Work closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, Scrum Masters, and Team Members in a Scaled Agile framework.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Computer Engineering or related field required (Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred) with 10+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with data warehouses and big data platforms; OR in lieu of a degree, 12+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience with data warehouses and big data platforms.
• Hands-on experience in:

• Rigorous data analysis through SQL in Oracle and various Hadoop technologies.
• Hands-on experience with data modeling of refined data layers on top of raw data.
• Performance optimization of the physical models in data lakes and warehouses.
• 6+ years\xe2\x80\x99 of programming experience in ETL tools - Ab Initio or Informatica highly preferred. Be able to read and reverse engineer the logic in Ab Initio graphs.
• Hands on experience with cloud platforms such as S3, Redshift, Snowflake, etc.
• Working knowledge of Hive, Spark, Kafka and other data lake technologies.
• Involvement in large scale data analytics migration from on premises to a public cloud
• Strong familiarity with data governance, data lineage, data processes, DML, and data architecture control execution.
• Experience to analyze system requirements and implement migration methods for existing data.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships at all levels across IT and the business.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, along with a strong ability to lead and influence others.
• Experience working iteratively in a fast-paced agile environment.

Desired Characteristics:

• Prior work experience in a credit card/banking/fintech company.
• Familiarity with TOGAF / leading data architecture framework.
• Experience dealing with sensitive data in a highly regulated environment.
• Demonstrated implementation of complex and innovative solutions.
• Agile experience using JIRA or similar Agile tools.
