Job Description

A transport manager plans, coordinates, and supervises an organization's transportation activities to ensure the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods and personnel. Key responsibilities include scheduling routes, managing logistics and budgets, ensuring regulatory compliance, overseeing fleet maintenance, and supervising transportation staff. They are also responsible for tracking shipments, maintaining records, and implementing strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Key responsibilities

• Logistics and operations: Plan and supervise shipments, schedule routes, and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
• Budget and cost management: Monitor transportation costs, manage budgets, and negotiate with suppliers and carriers to optimize profitability.
• Compliance and safety: Ensure compliance with all transportation laws, safety regulations, and legal requirements. This includes inspecting vehicles and monitoring driver qualifications.

• Fleet management: Oversee the daily maintenance and repair of the transportation fleet, ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy.

• Staff management: Hire, train, schedule, and supervise transportation staff, such as dispatchers and drivers.

• Record-keeping: Maintain complete and accurate records for vehicles, cargo, and shipments.

• Problem-solving: Investigate and resolve shipping complaints, investigate lost shipments, and handle issues like delays.
