SNC-Lavalin has exciting full time career opportunities for experienced Telecom Engineers. Based out of our Vancouver office, our Telecom Engineers are primarily responsible for the delivery of telecommunication engineering design with focus in the areas of microwave radio link design, high speed fiber optics link design as well as IP/MPLS based local and wide area networks for our high voltage transmission line and substation projects. The Telecom Engineer is required to work within a multi-discipline team to design efficient and reliable telecommunication facilities. The engineer will coordinate his/her design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. The engineer will also assist the Estimating Team in preparation of estimates and project proposals. This position is accountable to provide all design activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of SNC-Lavalin\'s policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control. How will you contribute to the team To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following: Preparation of project specifications for material/equipment purchase and installation. Design of telecommunication facilities including Microwave and UHF radio links, fiber optic transmission links including the cable (ADSS and OPGW), SONET & SDH/TDM multiplex systems, IP/MPLS Network systems, teleprotection, VSAT systems, cable protection systems, telecom power systems and telecom towers & antennas. Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications as well as meet good engineering practices with excellent constructability. Review of internal and external designs for code compliance with good design practice and constructability. Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects. Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to telecom design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information. Making and maintaining appropriate commitments to project teams and coordinating design activities with multi-disciplined project team members. Maintaining good working relationships with internal groups that support projects such as procurement, project management, etc. Maintaining good working relationships with material suppliers, contractors, and any others that affect the quality, schedule and cost of projects. Mentoring and providing guidance to developing engineers within the department. What will you contribute A degree in Telecom or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution. Minimum of 5 years of experience in telecom engineering, working on above mentioned technologies. (Registration with EGBC preferred). Knowledge of Canadian and British Columbia codes and standards, including OH&S Regulations, CSA codes is an asset. Strong client focus. A high level of interpersonal communication skills. These positions require a high level of interpersonal communication skills, as well as demonstrated design experience. Occasional travel to site locations is required.
