Position:

The Technical NOC Support Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving Spearline’s infrastructure and applications. The Technical NOC team is the first point of contact for all technical requests in Spearline. The engineer should be highly qualified with a complex set of skills in order to cover all areas of expertise from infrastructure, operating systems to scripting and programming tasks.


Requirements:

Qualifications

A successful candidate will have the following skills:
  • A problem-solving attitude, a willingness to dig down to the root cause of each issue, and enthusiastic about self-directed learning
  • A deep understanding of the Linux operating system
  • A deep understanding of networking (The candidate should understand DHCP and how it works, how DNS works, how routing works, how to setup static IPs and static routes, and how to troubleshoot networking issues)
  • Extensive experience with BASH
  • Familiarity with a modern programming language (Python, PHP, Go, Rust)
  • Plenty of experience building and running containers using best practices
  • Familiarity with infrastructure management as code (Ansible/Chef/Puppet, we use Ansible)
  • Familiarity with using and managing modern databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL)
It would be nice if the candidate also had the following skills:
  • Experience with Asterisk
  • SIP troubleshooting experience

Responsibilities

  • Responding to tickets from other teams within the SLA
  • Act as external Level 2 technical support, handling requests from the current Support team
  • Act as internal Level 1 support, triaging the tickets that come into the other teams
  • When possible, solve tickets on your own
  • If not, analyze the problem and escalate to the appropriate team while still being the focal point for communication.
  • Being proactive about finding and fixing issues before anyone else even notices
  • Updating the OS and firmware on Spearline’s servers, routers, and other devices on a regular basis
  • Monitoring the infrastructure using our monitoring tools and taking actions based on our procedures and SLAs
  • Develop new tools to optimize the work for our team or other departments
  • Develop new monitoring scripts/tools to automate actions or processes
  • Continuous improvement of Spearline infrastructure, design and applications
  • Setting up and installing the OS on new servers
  • Technical communication with providers about upgrades, and server and carrier outages
  • Handling technical requests from providers and the Carrier Relations team
  • Document and learn the fix of problems or requests so they can be handled the next time
  • Continuous training and research about new technologies
