SUMMARY:

Thales India Engineering Competency Center is seeking a Mechanical engineer to be part of its Hardware engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the Mechanical design and associated engineering activities of various Thales products and accessories compliant to the customer requirements and applicable industry standards (IEC 60601-1, MIL-810 etc.).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

BE / B.Tech in Mechanical engineering with minimum 7 to 12 years of relevant experience.

Experience in Medical systems design is desirable.

Experience in Automotive / Aerospace / Telecommunications is acceptable.

Competency / Skill:

Hands on experience: Successfully executed at least one project and currently working or worked within last 3 months in the relevant area.

Basic Knowledge: Exposed to the topic and has a fair understanding of it and its applicability in design. Should have referred the data in the current project or in a project with in last 6 months.

Hands on experience in the following

Electronics packaging design and mechatronics subassemblies (design custom connectors, wiring and mastering related design rules).

Materials and finish process selection: metals, plastics, carbon fiber composites

COTS (Commercial off the shelf components) component selection: Example - Fasteners, connector, seal / gasket, adhesive, Thermal interface material (TIM) Etc.

Implementing DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for assembly), Design for environmental requirements and Design for EMI / EMC.

CAD Tool : CREO/Windchill (For 3D CAD design and 2D CAD drafting)

Tolerance stack up analysis ISO GPS

Thermal calculations (One dimensional heat transfer) for electronics design.

At least 60% of the Product design and development lifecycle (Requirements \xc3\xa0 Design \xc3\xa0 verification \xc3\xa0 Prototyping \xc3\xa0 Qualification \xc3\xa0 Production)

Basic knowledge in the following

IEC 60601-1 or similar Environmental conditions and test procedures.

EMI / EMC concepts in the mechanical design of electronic equipment\xe2\x80\x99s.

IPC or equivalent standards relevant to PCB / CCA design.

Machining (Traditional and / or specialized) and sheet metal fabrication Aluminium, steel alloys used in electronic enclosure and associated accessories design.

Carbon fiber composites design and processing (draping, RTM)

Finish processes applicable for materials used in electronic packaging and fixture designs.

REACH & RoHS material compliance.

Thermal / Structural / Vibration / Shock analysis requirements:

Configuration management of design data (Engineering change request, Document revisions, part numbering, etc.)

Responsibilities:

The candidate shall own and successfully execute on time WITH MINIMUM SUPPORT, the listed (not limited to) mechanical engineering and allied activities. He should also provide technical leadership to the mechanical engineering function for successful execution of design.

Collaborate (Local and Global) with multidisciplinary teams (Electronics, Reliability, Industrialization, Manufacturing, Project management, Quality, Etc.) to design and/or realize the product.

Define mechanical interface specifications for the other work-packages.

Derive and manage activities estimation and schedule.

Comply with applicable organization specific product design and development processes.

Generate the mechanical design for the product.

Select suitable Material and finish process.

Select suitable COTS (Commercial off the shelf components):

Ensure compliance to.

DFM (Design for Manufacturing),

DFA (Design for assembly),

Environmental considerations (Fluids susceptibility, temperature conditions, altitude / pressure, water proofness, corrosion, etc.)

EMI (Electromagnetic interference) / EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility) considerations

Generate and manage the following design data.

3D CAD data.

2D CAD manufacturing drawings for custom designed mechanical items.

Product BOM (Bill of Material).

Perform following mechanical analysis as required.

Weight analysis

Tolerance analysis

Material compliance analysis (REACH / RoHS).

Perform following engineering justification as required to verify the design.

Thermal calculations (One dimensional heat transfer calculation)

Structural calculations (Example: Simple beam bending, weld strength etc.).

Participate in FMECA.

Collaborate with Analysis engineer for various software-based analysis (Thermal / Structural / Vibration / shock etc.) of the design.

Supply necessary design data and boundary conditions to perform analysis

Involve in technical discussion to validate the analysis results.

Contribute to necessary project reviews (PDR: preliminary design review, CDR: Critical design review, etc.)

Collaborate with external partners (Component suppliers, Test laboratories, other service providers, Etc.) for successful design, testing and Manufacturing.

Implement appropriate design data management practices.
