Role purpose


This role is in Node and Asset Management team within Colt Engineering sub function. This role mainly focus on 3rd party Datacentre (DC) Infrastructure Planning activities, which provides critical support for the overall success of Core Network built. This role is created as part of the overall transformation objective within Engineering and SD, wherein specific Core Site Planning tasks for over 1000+ 3rd party DCs now and more in future are planned to be performed with the existing network planning teams. This role would contribute by performing the Infrastructure Planning and optimization activities – which are usually the immediate next steps to the Planning tasks carried out by the Optical and Packet Network Engineering teams in IN. The team proactively plan infrastructure (space, power and cabling) at IQNET sites, order equipment and execute the build for –Capacity upgrades, Backbone ( expansion & optimization ) projects , Core installs for customer orders, etc. This role is also responsible for commercial aspects like – price negotiation with vendor , invoice management and business case preparation .



Key accountabilities


  • Evaluate the infrastructure requirements for short-/medium-term (individual projects) as well as long-term (annual budgets, site optimization etc.) for EU , North America and Asia IQ Datacentres.

  • Plan the Infrastructure – Rack , Power, Panel / Cabling , Rectifier , Consumables and proper Inventory management

  • Order/procure the infrastructure elements via ERO and/or PR/PO as applicable

  • Core Capacity Request Management ( Packet / Optical ) within defined OLA

  • Prepare Infrastructure Job pack ( Create OHS orders and trigger XTRAC wherever necessary ) and arranging Site Access

  • Trigger Implementation Team ( SD /3rd party Field Partner ) & track to completion

  • Quality assurance of implemented jobs and Invoice Management of Field Partner – Biweekly / Monthly

  • Price negotiation with field partner and maintain the vendor relationship

  • Capacity Reporting and hotspot analysis of Rack Space / Patch Panel , proactively trigger Infrastructure components

  • Space Reservation in inventory systems for future installs

  • Trigger Site Survey / Rack Audit to keep XNG and/or Rack diagram up-to-date and minimize new cabinet purchase and cost

  • Financial forecasting and business case preparation

  • Proactively engage with in-country or SSC teams in Engineering & SD , Finance , Project Management

  • Managing Space/power Optimization Projects to reduce the cost

  • Create as-built Rack diagrams

  • Contribute to Node / DC exit projects




Key performance indicators (financial and non-financial)


  • Capacity statistics for space at 3rd party DCs reported periodicity.
  • Space reservations at key IQ DCs for future installs
  • Proactively plan and/or trigger additional infrastructure upgrades: space / power / cabling.
  • Ensure Inventory documentation quality
  • Meeting monthly / quarterly financial forecasts
  • Deliver required deployments in specific projects as requested.

Role specific requirements


Skills & Experience

  • 6-9 years’ experience in a telco Service provider environment, planning/configuring/documenting network assets and inventory.
  • Demonstrate awareness/exposure to vendor equipment: WDM (Ciena / Infinera), Ethernet, IP (Cisco//Nokia/Juniper)
  • Good understanding of WDM and Ethernet technologies.
  • Exposure to inventory and order management systems (e.g. XNG, OHS, Siebel and SAP ERP ) is desired
  • Awareness of and/or exposure to infrastructure (rack and power ) planning
  • Commercial insight for developing business cases
  • Proficient in MS-Excel and Data analysis

  • Flexible approach and an ability to operate effectively with uncertainty and change
  • Outcome oriented



Qualifications

  • B.E. in Electronics/Telecommunications/Electrical Eng.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is must – candidate is expected to communicate with colleagues across Europe & Asia

  • Working hours – General, but some stretched hours could be required on business critical projects/deliverables. Flexibility available to work in shifts if required (but E1 only)
