Role & Responsibilities

Leadership (70%)

  • Partner with DataOps Lead Team to establish and scale the Enterprise Data Support Team as a growing area within Elanco
  • Establish support KPIs and an escalation matrix, keeping track of all operational processes and performance through ServiceNow
  • Build appropriate dashboards and other content to illustrate the health of our data capabilities and platforms.
  • Collaborate within and across teams to define, embed and scale the DataOps Operational processes for supporting our Enterprise Data Products and Pipelines to enable the business initiatives in Elanco.
  • Partner with Data Ops Delivery Lead for demand shaping, prioritization, and alignment.
  • Identify and position new methodologies, techniques and concepts that drive operational delivery and efficiencies, including automation, etc.
  • Establish a culture of operational excellence, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Enable and foster strong working relationships with third party service providers for both development and support of data solutions.
  • Own the establishment of required capabilities and skills, anticipate future needs, staff to needs, and continuously work to develop people and the organization.
  • Recruit, develop, engage, and retain a diverse, high-performing team.
  • Coach and mentor, the operational staff to maximize each individual's contribution and to help them achieve their full potential
  • Ensure that the team is delivering quality solutions in alignment with our enterprise Elanco quality policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate ownership in understanding the organization's strategic direction as it relates to your team and individual goals.
Data/Infrastructure Operations (30%)
  • Display adaptability, flexibility and the ability to do the right thing under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills when faced with complex technical issues involving multiple technologies
  • Show a strong ability to lead, perform, and deliver results in high pressure situations with multiple parties involved
  • Handle multiple customer issues and effectively balance priorities
  • Provide data/infrastructure operational subject matter expertise and hands-on support for data- capture, ingestion, curation, and pipeline development on Azure to deliver cloud optimized data solutions.
  • Understand the data products and provide the operational support to ensure uptime of the system for 24*7, and lead the team in supporting reliable, efficient, scalable, and quality data pipelines.
  • Provide expertise on PaaS, IaaS, or SaaS consultancy on Azure system; big data platform; server-less architectures.
  • Develop and evolve new or existing data support methods and procedures to create possible alternative, agile solutions to moderately complex solutioning
  • Stay abreast with new and emerging data and infra operational technologies, tools, methodologies, and patterns on Azure and other major public clouds.
  • Work collaboratively and use sound judgment in developing and supporting robust solutions while seeking guidance on complex problems.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors or higher degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • 9 years of data/infrastructure implementation experience
  • At least 3 years in roles that included operational support of data pipelines and data product design, development, delivery experience and deploying ETL/ELT solutions.
Desired Technical Skills/Experience
  • ITIL Qualifications - or at least a good understanding of Incident Management, Change Management, Release Management and Problem Management, Service Requests, Bug Fixes.
  • Technical knowledge of the Microsoft Azure Ecosystem with a focus on Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure native data/big-data tools, technologies and services experience including - Storage BLOBS, ADLS, Azure SQL DB, COSMOS DB, NoSQL and SQL Data Warehouse and PowerBI
  • 5 years of hands-on experience in programming languages, Azure and Big Data technologies such as Powershell, C#, Java, Python, Scala, SQL, ADLS/Blob, Hadoop, Spark/SparkSQL, Hive, and streaming technologies like Kafka, EventHub etc.
Additional Skills/Experience
  • Hands-on experience in implementing data migration and data processing using Azure services: Windows/Linux virtual machines, Docker Container and Kubernetes Cluster Management, AutoScaling, Azure Functions, Server-less Architecture, ARM Templates, Logic Apps and Data Factory, Azure network security group, Key management service, etc.
  • Azure Certifications would be strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Spark Framework 3.x version
  • DevOps on an Azure platform and/or Github Actions
  • Familiarity with metadata management tools, techniques, and technologies such as Azure Data Catalog, Azure API Management, Collibra
  • Experience in using Hadoop File Formats and compression techniques.
  • Experience with private and public cloud architectures, pros/cons, and migration considerations.
  • Proven ability to work independently.
  • Proven ability to work in a team-oriented environment and work collaboratively in a problem-solving environment.
  • Proven track record as a coach and/or mentor in developing technical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Experience working in complex, diverse landscapes (business, technology, regulatory, partners, providers, geographies, etc.)
