Job Description




Role Profile
The Unix Team is responsible for the administration and support of the hardware and operating systems installed on all infrastructures and technologies that use UNIX and Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Oracle Solaris).
To ensure success as a UNIX system engineer, you should have in-depth knowledge of UNIX operating systems, excellent troubleshooting skills, and high-level knowledge of computer hardware. A skilled UNIX system administrator will ensure the smooth running of the company\xe2\x80\x99s computer system and quickly respond to breakdowns and software issues.

Responsibilities

  • Complete OS patching tasks on time
  • Will need to manage incidents, changes, configurations within the agreed SLA and OLAs. Ensure systems are documented in UNIX knowledge base (wiki) to an appropriate standard. Will also need to involve in Project and Disaster recovery.
  • Ongoing communications with stakeholders including third parties, regarding incidents, changes and other tasks and their progress. These must be both timely and accurate.
  • Will need to ensure that accepted procedures are adhered to, and metrics are captured.
  • Ongoing communications with change raisers, management, technicians including third parties, regarding change requests and their progress.
  • Perform custodian roles assigned by the tower lead
  • Must work in the assigned shift in providing 24x7 service
  • Has to take part in Saturday shift and on-call support during the weekends as per the rota
  • Identify and action on the opportunities for service improvement and service level targets.

Experience
  • 2 years and above


Educational qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree


Key Skills

Required technical skills.
  • RedHat Linux (version 6 and 7)
  • SAN/Storage experience on RedHat and Solaris
  • Shell scripting (bash)
  • Backup/Restore


Desirable technical skills
  • Oracle Solaris 10 and 11 (preferred)
  • Logical Domain / Zones (preferred)
  • VMware
  • Veritas Cluster and storage foundation (preferred)
  • Veritas Netbackup
  • LDAP (RedHat Directory Services)
  • HP Blade
  • Oracle Server Hardware
  • Perl
  • Python
