Job Overview

TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

Roles & Responsibilities

BU / FUNCTION DESCRIPTION (AUTOMOTIVE)

Automotive Industry offers products for vehicle electrification systems like chassis systems, convenience applications, driver information, infotainment solutions, miniaturization solutions, motor, and powertrain applications etc. The TE Automotive BU is focused on developing new and improved vehicle architecture approaches to efficiently address these challenges in Connectivity from power to propulsion and safety.

ROLE OBJECTIVE

Design & Development of automotive connector system.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for design and development of Connectors based on customer requirement for Automotive application.
  • Responsible for preparing and presenting design reviews per manufacturability, update
design per suggestion and keep record.
  • Responsible for choosing standard parts, features, material as per internal guidelines which
would meet the internal / customer target process and cost.
  • Manage a team of product development engineers and be technically proficient to deliver projects
  • Verify the design (plastic parts) which involves 3D modelling (Concepts/APM models), Proposal /detail drawings for costing / production, conducting basic simulation study.
  • Responsible to conduct design reviews and design optimization.
  • Responsible for final release of parts / drawings for Manufacturing
  • Work closely with customer/sales/PM in getting the right and clear VOC (voice of customer), make engineering evaluation/proposal to customer.
  • Maintain a System level understanding of customer application and the concept necessary for providing a solution to the customers' expectation.
  • Work with global manufacturing resources, procurement, and outside suppliers to meet all TE technical, quality and cost objectives
  • Apply engineering best practice to reduce cost and sustain exiting products to meet customer's cost targets.
  • Responsible for documentation of learnings and presenting to the team
  • Responsible for Problem Solving & right Discission making
  • Monitoring Performance & Initiating actions to strengthen the result

Requirement and Skills

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE
  • Bachelor's / master's degree in engineering (Mechanical)
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art design tools such as Creo modelling, Geometric Dimension & Tolerancing (GD&T), GPS, electrical & electronic design, and Simulation
  • Basic knowledge in manufacturing process (machining, molding, stamping, plating, etc.) will be a plus.
  • Basic knowledge in material (metal/plastic) properties will be a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of transmission line/signal integrity concepts is helpful in completing required tasks.
  • Familiarity with quality tools (FMEA, 6sigma, DOE, 8D...) will be a plus
CRITICAL EXPERIENCE
  • 10+ years of experience in Design and Development of products preferably in connectors / plastic parts
  • Good knowledge about connector fundamentals and their applications in an automotive industry preferred
  • Strong knowledge about Tolerance stack-up, GD&T / GPS and Scoop proofing, Stubbing and Creepage calculation will be an added advantage
  • Good Knowledge in Creo software & PDM windchill.
  • Capable of supporting Multiple Projects simultaneously
  • Good Conceptual, problem solving and Analytical Skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately across multi-cultural groups.
  • Should be Self-Motivated, Adaptive, Passionate about results and a Good Team Player.
  • Strong Technical Aptitude with Willingness to learn new Technologies quickly.
  • Demonstrated working Experience in a fast paced and changing environment with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Technical expertise in injection molding process and mold defects
  • Good Knowledge on Material and finishing process
  • Good knowledge on measurement instruments / methods / validations
  • Good Exposure to DFA & DFMEA
  • Good at Leadership Skills, Communication Skills, motivational skills & Administrative Skills
  • Experience in Independent Project Handling, New Challenges, Risk taking & Priority settings
  • Assisting team on technical design, development standards, best practices, & development guidelines
  • Good at Root Cause Analysis & Problem-Solving abilities
  • Ability to provide technical support to customer, sales, PM, and Manufacturing team
  • Conduct necessary test, engineering analysis, trouble shooting and verification.
  • Good at Connector testing & validation as per OEM's specifications. (USCAR / LV 214)
  • Exposure to High Voltage connectors is an added advantage
  • Experience in identifying & providing the required trainings, developments skills to the essential team member
