Stenographer Job Duties Stenographers have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

Staying up to date with industry standards and technology by participating in continuing education courses provided by their employer
Maintaining confidentiality of client information such as personal details or business plans
Reporting directly to a supervisor or manager who oversees the team of stenographers
Recording and transcribing medical, legal, business, legislative, or other specialized proceedings
Following established protocols for communicating with other parties involved in the event such as attorneys, witnesses, or other stenographers
Preparing transcripts of hearings, depositions, or other legal proceedings
Reviewing audio recordings or transcripts of previous hearings to ensure that they are accurate before they are released to the public
Providing transcripts or audio recordings of events to attorneys, judges, law enforcement agencies, or any other authorized users
Preparing transcripts of recorded interviews or interrogations for use in legal proceedings such as trials or appeals
