The Staff Nurse provides safe, compassionate, and family-centered nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents. The role includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care while collaborating with pediatricians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities1. Patient Care
Provide nursing care to neonates, infants, children, and adolescents according to hospital protocols.
Conduct physical assessments, monitor vital signs, and observe patient conditions.
Administer medications, injections, and IV fluids accurately.
Assist in pediatric procedures, treatments, and emergency interventions.
Provide care for children with acute, chronic, or critical illnesses (e.g., NICU, PICU).
Ensure pain management and comfort measures suitable for each age group.
Document all nursing care, assessments, and interventions.
2. Family & Patient Support
Educate parents/guardians about child care, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive health.
Communicate effectively and compassionately with children and families.
Provide emotional support during stressful or traumatic situations.
3. Clinical Skills & Procedures
Perform pediatric-specific procedures: nebulization, suctioning, feeding tube care, catheterization, wound care, phototherapy assistance, etc.
Assist in emergency pediatric care (CPR, code procedures).
Maintain infection control and hygiene standards in patient areas.
4. Coordination & Teamwork
Collaborate with pediatricians, specialists, therapists, and other healthcare staff.
Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
Ensure proper handover during shift changes.
5. Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate patient records and nursing charts.
Manage supplies, equipment, and medications in the pediatric ward.
Follow hospital policies, protocols, and nursing standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Diploma or B.Sc. in Nursing (Registered Nurse).
License:
Valid nursing registration with the local Nursing Council.
Experience:
Pediatric or neonatal nursing experience preferred.
Skills:
Strong pediatric nursing knowledge
Excellent communication and empathy
Ability to handle emergencies
Patience and child-friendly approach
Teamwork and multitasking abilities
Work Conditions
Rotational shifts (morning, evening, night).
May include duty in Pediatric Ward, NICU, PICU, Emergency, or OPD.
Exposure to high-pressure situations involving sick children.
